NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — The Auxiliary of St. Luke's Hospital recently announced $5,000 in scholarship awards for individuals who are pursuing a career in health care.

The Auxiliary presented five $1,000 scholarship awards to area high school seniors during its annual Scholarship Luncheon held June 1 at the Waterfront Grille in New Bedford.

The 2012-2013 Scholarship winners are:

Jessica DeSousa, a graduate of New Bedford High School, who will attend the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to pursue a degree in premedical and health science.

Kaylyn Vieira, a graduate of New Bedford High School, who will attend Franklin Pierce College to pursue a career as a physician assistant.

Kara Rebello, a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, who will attend Rhode Island College to pursue a degree in nursing.

Kayla McConnell, a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, who will attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to pursue a degree in nursing.

Riley E. Marion, a graduate of Dartmouth High School, who will attend Ithaca College to pursue a degree in physical therapy.

The Auxiliary of St. Luke's Hospital is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to render service to St. Luke's Hospital, its tax-exempt subsidiaries, its patients and to assist in promoting the health and welfare of the community. Joining the Auxiliary is a great way to become involved in your community hospital. Members serve as ambassadors to the community on behalf of the hospital.
