The South Burnett Thrashers are hoping for a big roll-up of fans at their match against the Condamine Cods on Saturday to help the boys “over the line” and into the semi-finals of the Darling Downs B Grade rugby union competition for the first time.

The South Burnett’s big win over Roma at the weekend has put them back into the top five behind Goondiwindi, Rangers, Condamine and the Bears but the final positions will be decided after the last round of the competition which will be played this weekend.

Club president Shane O’Malley said the Thrashers scored a bonus point by locking in four tries against Roma on Saturday.

He said it was a big game and the team did well to win 29-12.

“It is the first win that I can remember that we have had out at Roma,” he said.

Best players for the Thrashers were Adam Raerre and Dan O’Connor in the backs.

A new face in the South Burnett, Pierre Gorka, from France, also had a good game in only his second match with the Thrashers.

Saturday’s game against Condamine is vital for the Thrashers and won’t be easy as Condamine are presently sitting above them on the table in third position.

Shane is not downplaying the immensity of the task ahead.

“Absolutely, it’s all in front of us,” he said.

“They beat us out at Condamine but we played far from our best that day.

“But we are on the cusp of something pretty big. We’d like heaps of supporters to help the boys over the line.”

At 3:00pm, the “old boys” will take to the field when the South Burnett “Bashers” take on the Condamine “Codgers”.
