If you’re looking for a healthy way to spend your Super Bowl Sunday, the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 36th Annual Super Bowl Sunday 10k/5k. The event is expected to attract 9,000 participants that will be running, walking or joining in the Baby Buggy 10k. In its 36th year, the event has become a tradition for locals and out-of-towners alike.
If you’re looking to mix in some extra fun with the race, be sure to dress up for the costume contest, which seems to grow in popularity and zeal every year. If you’re running with friends, pick a theme and dress up in team costumes to join hundreds of other teams that will be running in their favorite costumes. Prizes for the costume contest include 2 mountain bikes that were donated by Kaiser Permanente.
Registration starts at 6am with the 10k run starting at 8:30am, so there will be plenty of time left after the race for participants to enjoy watching the game. There is also a Health & Fitness Expo going on all weekend at the Seaside Lagoon. The expo is free to the public and features countless running and fitness accessories.
The race starts at the Sea Side Lagoon, looping to the Redondo Beach Pier all the way down and around the Esplanade. All runners will receive a custom race shirt. There will also be awards given to the top three male & female finishers in each of the categories. The event features live music and a Michelob Ultra Post Race Hospitality Area.
Registration is still open and available on Sunday, with prices varying depending which race you sign up for. There are several parking structures to choose from if you’re going to participate in the event.
Be sure to like the Redondo Beach Super Bowl Facebook Page for real time updates about the race. They also have some great group costume contest photos up if you need some inspiration for yours!
