New Editorial Director, and former mobile industry Analyst, Scott Bicheno, is also recruiting a new team, which has the opportunity to take the site to new levels, and in exciting new directions. The telecoms industry is in a state of constant, rapid evolution and Telecoms.com needs an editorial team that can move at that speed.
An opportunity exists for an experienced journalist to take responsibility for ensuring the site is constantly up to date with the latest news and analysis from across the mobile technology world. While the world of telecoms networks, operators and markets is the core focus of the site, everything from smartphones, to mobile apps, to regulation are covered in its quest to keep its readers fully informed.
Activities and responsibilities will include:
• News writing. Gathering information about the telecommunications and mobile phone industries from a variety of sources and turning around news stories quickly, accurately and authoritatively.
• Interviews. Speaking to the leading figures in the telecoms world, asking incisive questions and producing incisive interviews that will grab and hold the industry’s attention.
• Events. Covering events from product launches to press trips to Mobile World Congress, our Senior Writer should relish the opportunity to report from ground level on the events shaping the telco industry.
• Analysis. As a former analyst our new Editorial Director puts a strong emphasis on providing context, insight and opinion in all writing. Our Senior Writer should have the desire to use the unique access granted to Telecoms.com to provide an exceptional level of analytical writing.
• Social Media and SEO. Telecoms.com is online-only and our Senior Writer will have ownership of its social media and SEO strategies. They will exploit all key social media avenues to promote our content and ensure the prominence of our stories in searches with their SEO awareness.
• Print editing and proofing. The Senior Writer will also be responsible for contributing to Telecoms.com’s sister print title: Mobile Communications International. Responsibilities will include writing in-depth features, subbing and proofing against a print deadline.
The ideal applicant will have at least 3 years of experience writing about business and/or technology. Experience of B2B content and tone would be an advantage, as would familiarity with the pace and techniques of online journalism. Knowledge of the telecommunications business would be ideal, but even more important is the desire to be the best writer you can and to be an integral part of a team headed in an exciting direction.
As well as demonstrating the writing and analytical skills required, the successful applicant should be familiar with Office, image manipulation software and be a resourceful Internet user. Knowledge of Wordpress would be an advantage, as would familiarity with mobile devices, components and infrastructure.
