SS: How did you come to start LovePendants and why did you choose to sell sorority merchandise?
LP: I have been a designer of diamond jewelry for over 20 years! I started designing gemstone jewelry in 1997 when a friend asked me make her an unusual pair of earrings. The earrings turned out to be very special, so I entered them in a design completion and won. That convinced me to try my hand at designing more colored gemstone jewelry. LovePendants entered the sorority market when my daughter, a Freshman at IU, said she would rush. I then decided to add sorority jewelry to my assortment. Now Sophie is in AEPhi and she loves her new sorority necklace and bracelet.
With the LovePendants product line, we are able to offer gemstone pendants, charms and bracelets in silver and gold for many sororities, in addition to our awareness ribbons, symbols and sentiments. They make a perfect gift for sorority sisters who appreciate gorgeous jewelry.
SS: What makes LovePendants stand out in the crowded sorority jewelry marketplace?
LP: The LovePendants concept that we are using for sorority jewelry is one of a kind in the world. The gemstone cut didn’t even exist previously! I wanted to be able to engrave a design on one side and view through the other, so I invented the cut. We engaged a physicist who specializes in laser technology to develop the techniques we needed to engrave anything that fits on the back of a gemstone. Now LovePendants are patent pending. They are totally customizable, translucent and completely unique to the sorority jewelry market.
SS: Does LovePendants have any new designs this season?
LP: Our entire collection is NEW and groundbreaking! The challenge one faces when one invents a new category of product is getting people to consider what is being offered ~ since it never existed before. SS: If you could wave a magic wand and change one thing about LovePendants, what would it be?
LP: If I could wave my wand I would wish for everyone to know that engraved gemstone jewelry like mine exists right now and they can find it online just by Googling it. And part 2 of that wish would be all the sorority sisters in America would spread the word!
SS: What’s the funniest or craziest thing that’s ever happened at LovePendants?
LP: The funniest thing happened when I posted Halloween graphic on Facebook featuring a witch on a gemstone necklace. Many customers wanted to buy that piece. But one caller wanted to know if the owl in the photo was actually a prince cursed by the witch!? Strange but true.
