INTERNATIONALLY LAUNCH THEIR NEW ALBUM

“ELYPSE”

Miami, FL | 06.03.2014

ABOUT “ELYPSE”:

“I sat down at the piano and began to write this new story entitled Elypse.” This is how Mario Domm describes the end of a year-and-a-half hiatus during which he found many reasons not to abandon the stage. “I had lost contact with myself; I thought I would never make an album again,” he admits.  Therein lays the honesty and strength of this high-level conceptual production that, from its title, shuns clichés, avoids the obvious and takes its place at the vanguard of Latin Music.

Camila’s third studio album is a production with four hands and one voice, which fulfills the eternal promise of true talent: to meet the next challenge. “What we have accomplished in eight years is something we should keep alive,” says Pablo Hurtado remembering uncertain times. Domm completes the sentence, “Why fix something that is not broken?” And they were right to keep going. You can tell by their camaraderie; one begins a sentence and the other finishes it. You can see it in the video of their first single, “Decidiste dejarme” (You Decided to Leave Me), a fierce ballad that underlines their determination.

Mario and Pablo. Pablo and Mario. Two friends who, after re-evaluating their project and finding themselves irreplaceable, knew how to encounter new directions, reinventing a new band with the same name it had before: Camila. Two artists who decided to stop and think things over after the success of “Todo cambió” and “Dejarte de amar,” songs that received numerous awards and took them to the top of the charts. Later came the introspection, the necessary catharsis. “We realized that we were no longer our past,” says Mario. “Fate made us turn our backs on music and that could not last forever.”

We playfully ask, not about the sound, but the color of Elypse. “It’s red,” Mario answers quickly. “Its texture is rough,” both agree. “It’s like a flash of light falling on a landscape painted on a big canvas,” says Domm. We are talking about twelve pop songs influenced by the best of rock, blues, funk, electronica, dubstep, classic and even jukebox favorites but done with a new maturity. Twelve songs that, put together with cinematic sophistication, reflect many talented artists.

On the one hand, we have the arrangements that the renowned Spanish composer of soundtracks, Roque Baños (Evil Dead, El maquinista, Alatriste) wrote for the London Pro Arte Orchestra; on the other, we have explosive rhythms by Ricky Luna, Stéphane Lozac’h and Olivier Visconti. Equally important are the pieces by musicians previously with Prince, Jane’s Addiction and Nine Inch Nails (Michael Bland, Paul Peterson, Chris Chaney, Josh Freese), as well as the intellect behind Mario’s poetry (Mónica Vélez, Lauren Evans, Vicente García, Carlos Murguía, Paolo Prudencio, Edgar Oceransky and Paulyna Carraz).

We could say that on Elypse most songs perceive love, but in reality they act as a vehicle to other subjects: the present (“Este momento”), sadness (“Adicto al dolor”), desperation (“No hay vuelta atrás”) or Mexico, the country they love and miss. “You carry your country with you; the roots don’t change,” Mario says when explaining the feelings behind “Lágrimas.”

Breaking rules, mixing their travels and personal stories, the duo found ways to put music first, using paradigms far from their comfort zone. “Elypse reflects its art from the time you look at the graphic design on the cover,” says Mario. “We didn’t want to be on the cover; this album underlines our commitment to the songs.” This is obvious from its sound; there is a different balance between the vocal and musical instruments.

In Pablo’s words, “It’s the most interesting, spiritual and introspective work by Camila.” It’s a fusion of genres, musicians and temperaments using a new original language for Latin pop. Orchestras, vocal ensembles, distortions, metamorphosis: All of it coexists and works in the album. “There were two possible options,” concludes Domm: “to repeat ourselves or follow our intuition to allow the group to evolve naturally.  We chose the second option. It’s now time for the people to claim these songs.” Elypse’s tour has begun.

ABOUT THE SONGS:

DECIDISTE DEJARME: Is the name of the first single from this new album. This song displays angry and furious lyrics and music. The sound has a very distinguished contrast between the chorus and the verses. It’s like a bipolar song that changes from water to fire.

PERDÓN: Speaks about a person that is always making promises that cannot be kept like everlasting love. This is a very intense song and that is why we incorporated an orchestra to inject all that drama that is perceived in the lyrics.

QUÉDATE: Is a song that speaks about putting pride and egos to the side. It also talks about the value of fighting for love, to confront it and to stay.

ESTE MOMENTO: Speaks about a search and that the questions to this search are on the inside of each person and not on the outside. Musically is an ethereal song that starts climbing until it reaches a very exciting climax.

DE VENUS:  Is a song full of light. It’s full of blues and gospel. It’s a very positive song that talks about blind love for another person. This song is one of our favorites.

TU TIEMPO YA SE FUE: This song brings back the touches of funk that Camila has.

ME ENSEÑASTE A ODIAR: It’s a very strong song. The first time I heard the phrase “Ya no tienes derecho a pedir perdón” I was petrified: Pablo Hurtado.

LA VIDA ENTERA: This is the most honest song in the album because it was written in 15 minutes. It talks about a transformation thanks to a healing soul and the panther’s body that is always with me. It’s a very cinematographic song; the orchestra plays a crucial role and sets the mood like in a movie.

NO HAY VUELTA ATRÁS: I wrote this song in a moment of despair, sadness and darkness: Pablo Hurtado.

ADICTO AL DOLOR: I wrote this song with Mónica Vélez about a year ago, and it talks about that strange addiction that is not alcohol or drugs, but pain. We wanted to try out electronic sounds this time. It’s a new sound for Camila and we hope you like it: Mario Domm.

LÁGRIMAS: Is a painful and mournig song for the country we live in. We wish Camila never had to write this song.

TÚ: Without a doubt this is the essence of Camila’s sound. The song is full of elements like the orchestra, chorus, rock and electronic. Speaks about something a lot of people go through such as panic attacks and anxiety. This apocalyptic song could be interpreted as one person singing it to another but it makes much more sense if the person sings it to himself.

ABOUT CAMILA:

Founded by the award-winning composer, singer and producer Mario Domm (Coahuila, Mexico), Camila made its official debut in 2005 when Domm signed his first record contract with Sony Music, together with his friends and colleagues guitarist Pablo Hurtado (San Luis Potosí) and Veracruz native Samo.  Camila made Todo Cambió (2006) and Dejarte de amar (2010), two meteoric hits that turned the group into one of the most successful in Latin America.

Ever since, Camila has soared to the top of the charts in Mexico and beyond.  Songs like “Abrázame,” “Coleccionista de canciones,” “Todo cambió,” “Mientes,” “Aléjate de mí” and “Bésame,” among others, have made them big winners in the record industry: more than two million copies sold, three Grammy awards, three Billboard Awards, Diamond and Platinum certifications, hundreds of shows in 18 countries in front of more than two million fans, more than seven and a half million followers on Facebook and nearly three million on  Twitter and hundreds of thousand visits on YouTube (numbers we know will grow in the months to come).

Additionally, they have performed in countless venues, such as New York’s and Los Angeles’ NOKIA, El Coliseo in Puerto Rico, in Barquisimeto, Venezuela (a concert with a hundred thousand people in attendance), el Gran Rex de Buenos Aires, Argentina and Viña del Mar, Chile, to mention just a few outside Mexico, where they have performed in the most renowned venues including six national auditoriums, four sports stadiums and El Foro Sol, all in less than six months during the same tour… a tough record to break. At the same time, Camila has worked with international stars like Colbie Caillat, Kenny G, Alejandro Sanz, Alejandra Guzmán, Reyli, Chambao, Aleks Syntek and Wanessa Camargo.

In 2014, Camila launches a third studio album, Elypse, transforming itself from trio to duo. Today it is Mario Domm and Pablo Hurtado who make up this group that is so loved by its loyal public. “Decidiste dejarme,” their new single, is catching on at radio and video channels, indicating a new chapter of success for Camila.

ABOUT MARIO DOMM:

Composer, singer and producer born in Coahuila, Mexico, Mario Domm commands multiple musical instruments, which means that, literally, he can play any music that is put in front of him: drums, guitar, bass or a cooking pot with two spoons. His imagination, sensibility and technical knowledge have created some of the best songs in the contemporary Latin American repertoire.

From Alejandro Sanz to Taboo (Black Eyed Peas) and including Alejandra Guzmán, Kalimba, Reyli, Sin Bandera, Rosana, Jesse and Joy, Romeo, Alejandro Fernández and Thalía, his vision and commitment have been the best ally of many record productions, something that is even more obvious in Camila, his most personal project. He is launching his third album in 2014, Elypse, after the super successful “Todo cambió” (2006) and “Dejarte de amar” (2010).

An artist with great charisma and humility, Mario Domm knows how to listen to his colleagues to help them bring out the best they have to give. This is the reason for their many awards, recognitions and nominations as engineer, producer, composer or performer of his own works or that of others.  Domm lives in Los Angeles, California, where he works in his own recording studio named Pop The Cherry Studios.

ABOUT PABLO HURTADO:

Guitarist and co-producer of Camila, Pablo Hurtado joined the project shortly before graduating in music production and audio engineer at the Fermatta Music School. It meant quite an effort since just as he was about to graduate, he began his first tour. He was born in Mexico City and grew up in San Luis Potosí in a family with artistic sensibilities. At family gatherings, there was always music.

He began playing the piano at the age of five and when he turned seven; his father introduced him to classical guitar.  However, it wasn’t until he became a teenager that he first tried the electric guitar. He began to play with several cover rock bands, and later became interested in musical theatre and progressive music. At the age of 20, he returned to Mexico City and began his audio engineering studies, which opened his mind to other musical genres such as jazz, blues, funk and pop.

At present, sponsored by the guitar brand PRS, Pablo has acquired knowledge and refinement and shows a fresh perspective whether playing acoustic music or intricate solos, sweet ballads or daring ones. His talent has been essential as co-author of several songs in all three of Camila’s albums (“Todo cambió”, “Dejarte de amar”, “Elypse”), which has allowed him to come in contact with giants of world music. He lives in Los Angeles, California, where he has his own recording studio, Cypress Overdrive Studios.
