What’s that I can see up ahead?

Oh I know what it is…

Summer!

Yep, the season of sun, sand and surf is going to be here before we know it.

And you know what else that means, don’t you?

Swimwear season.

Now before you {and I} run and duck for cover, I want us to make a promise to one another. I want us to throw our insecurities and self-critical thoughts in the bin along with any old, faded, misshapen swimwear. Let’s embrace the warmer weather by getting into a fabulous swimsuit and not giving a damn.

Life’s too short.

To further inspire you to join Team Summer Loving, the uber cool crew at Bombshell Bay Swimwear are sharing the hottest swimwear trends for summer and I’m sharing my favourite picks from their latest collection.

Ready? Set. Swim!

2016 Summer Swimwear Trends

Trend: Strappy

Straps are an important detail and come in different forms, such as split spaghetti straps and geometric forms. Straps range from subtle splits to full caged looks. This trend works best in plain solid colours rather than prints and complements other trends such as lingerie style and mesh.

My Pick: Caged Marsala Bikini Top $80

Trend: Mesh

This summer, cut-outs and mesh inserts offer a seductive and sophisticated feel, with just a hint of sport luxe influence. The mesh insert in the sweetheart neckline will be a standout trend this season, offering a little more coverage in the bust and creating a point of interest.

My Pick: Rumours Mesh Insert One Piece $169

Trend: Crop Top

The crop top is back for another summer and is the perfect bikini basic shape to mix and match with just about any style of bottom. Super practical and functional with a sporty feel, it can be layered with other pieces. The crop top takes on many varied forms, including long, short, high neck and scoop.

My Pick: Marble Crop Top $80

Trend: One Piece

More of a classic rather than a trend, the one piece swimsuit is bigger and better than ever. Particular emphasis is on plain, printed, high neck, cut-outs and mesh detailing. Minimal styling also ensures a slimming and sophisticated silhouette.

My Pick: Bungalow Palm Cut-Out One Piece $169

Trend: Contrast Edging

Contrasting edge trims will be seen alongside the boho/70s trend this season. It will feature along border seams and also on straps for one piece swimsuits. Contrast edging adds a point of interest without being too full on. A hint of metallic or pop of colour adds a fresh element to basic styles. Also look out for contrasting bottoms with a 70s vibe.

My Pick: Marsala Contrast Trim Bottoms $89

Trend: High Waisted

High waisted swimsuits are anything but boring – they’re bombshell, baby! Comfortable and flattering, the mid and high waisted swimsuit is a great alternative for those of us who are a little self-conscious about our tummies. Modern touches such as mesh inserts, buttons, zips, hip cut-outs and side ties add character to this trend.

My Pick: Bungalow Palm Mid Waist Bottoms $80

Trend: Reversible

Reversible swimwear adds a mix and match element and allows you to have a combination of prints and solid colours without breaking the budget. Seamless swimwear also equals super comfortable body skimming fit without any pesky elastic digging in and creating an unflattering silhouette.

My Pick: Jelly Fish Reversible Hipster Bottoms $89

Trend: The Rashie

A rash guard / rash vest / rashie {whatever you want to call it} protects your skin from the sun’s harmful rays and is one hot trend this summer. No longer emblazoned with logos or brand names, the rashie is making a major comeback in the active and fashion swimwear space. Florals, geometric and stripes are the prints of the season for rashies.

My Pick: Palm Canyon Rash Vest $79

Will you be ditching the self-loathe and embracing the self-love with me this summer?
