NUREMBERG (DE) POWTECH, the International Trade Fair for Mechanical Processing Technologies and Instrumentation, takes place again in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 23–25 April 2013.
The number one event for powder, granule and bulk solids technologies confirms its top position again this year. With 724 exhibitors from 27 countries on a net display space of more than 22,000 sqm, the visitors can look forward to the world’s most extensive range of mills, mixers & co. 35 per cent of the exhibitors are international companies.

The exhibition is positioned excellently despite the strained economic situation of the past months.” This year’s trade fair again reflects the entire spectrum of mechanical processes at the highest technological level. Nowhere else can process technologists find such a comprehensive overview of the new products for size reduction, screening, mixing, conveying, dosing or granulating. Another 235 exhibitors at the parallel TechnoPharm supplement the range of products with the latest process technologies for sterile production.
Growing international share
35 per cent of the companies are international. The exhibitors represent 27 countries this year. The leading exhibiting nations after Germany are Italy, Great Britain, Switzerland, Austria and the USA.
Young and full of innovative ideas
Nine companies present their products in hall 6 in the pavilion for young innovative companies sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.The companies show just how much innovation potential the sector has to offer: The products range from innovative magnetic measuring systems and a lightweight robot arm to innovative test samples for metal and radiation detectors in the food and pharmaceutical industry.
New products for size reduction and mixing
The particularly varied and extensive range of modern size reduction processes at POWTECH 2013 is supplemented with an even larger number of exhibitors in the mixing segment. Many of the POWTECH exhibitors are not only technology leaders in mixing dry materials but also offer all-round expertise in dispersing or mixing suspensions and liquids.
Current trends in screening, filtering and analysing
Here technology leaders like Allgaier, Minox and Russell show the latest screening trends for extended lifetimes, optimized particle spectrums and higher throughputs with reduced energy consumption. POWTECH 2013 also offers an unusually large spectrum of technologies for separation, filtering and precipitation, and particle analysis is represented at the trade fair too. This group of exhibitors with companies from ten countries in Europe, Asia and America represents the global knowledge available on these highly demanding technologies.
High-tech bulk solids logistics and handling
POWTECH also offers process technologists an extensive survey of current developments in filling, packing and bag filling, and for logistics and emptying transport containers for bulk solids. This technology is excellently represented at the trade fair by approx. 100 exhibitors, who show a varied range of equipment for tasks such as handling big bags.
Innovation forum for dosing and weighing technology
As leading exhibition for the whole field of mechanical processing technology, POWTECH 2013 offers more than 230 exhibitors that present the latest solutions for dosing and weighing alone. They show the whole spectrum from rotary feeder and cutting-edge volumetric and gravimetric dosing processes to individual load cells, but naturally current developments in belt scales and bulk flow weighing machines too.
One-stop shop for plant engineers
At POWTECH planners and operators find modern solutions for linking equipment to form complete systems. The trade fair offers the whole spectrum of technology for this – from incoming acceptance of powder, granules and bulk solids to intralogistics and solutions for the storage of these products in big bags or bulk silos.
Modern automation for powder and bulk solids processing industry
POWTECH continues to offer an overview of process control systems and future-compatible software solutions. These enable the implementation of functions such as recording all material flows, continuous traceability or standard interfacing of various production locations to an ERP system.
Comprehensive explosion protection
Process technologists can update on current trends in explosion protection quickly and intensively at POWTECH 2013. For example, explosion protection with a focus on protection against dust explosions is extensively represented by some 30 exhibitors, including market leaders like Rembe, Hoerbiger, BS&B Safety Systems and GreCon. The programme is rounded off with the INDEX Safety Congress on 24–25 April 2013, guided tours to the industry’s new products, short presentations at the forum and live explosions in the park.
PARTEC Congress
Up to 500 particle specialists are also guests in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg at the same time at PARTEC, the International Congress on Particle Technology. The approx. 370 papers at the congress cover practice, science and research and are devoted to the development of revolutionary materials for the chemical, pharmaceutical, food or building material industry. Hygienic design trend
Driven by the increasing demand for ever higher quality products, it is necessary to completely remove all product residues when changing batches to avoid loss of quality. Plant components that are easy to clean and restore to a residue-free state are therefore an issue that has long extended beyond food and pharmaceutical production. This subject is examined in detail at the Exhibitors Forum in a series of presentations organized by the publisher Hüthig Verlag together with the European Hygienic Design Group.
Parallel event in the exhibition centre: focus on cleanrooms
TechnoPharm, the high-tech exhibition for sterile production, takes place at the same time as POWTECH. Of special interest for powder and bulk solids experts is the focus on cleanrooms. There are some 100 exhibitors with cleanroom-relevant products at the trade fair duo and 30 exhibitors at TechnoPharm present products explicitly focused on cleanrooms. 14 of these highly specialized exhibitors and an Expert Forum with presentations are concentrated around the marketplace of the Cleanroom Village in hall 9. The parallel CleanRoomCongress 2013 is organized jointly by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Pharmazeutische Verfahrenstechnik (International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology) and Concept Heidelberg and shows best practice examples for cleanrooms from leading pharmaceutical companies like CSL Behring and Boehringer Ingelheim.
