both aus, (scene kid au and modern au) are in real-time in their respective years, by which i mean it’s summertime right now! and modern au is all about meme team runnin around trying stupid stuff, so they’re outside a lot, and hinata gets pretty tan from that. (komaeda, of course, does not ‘tan’ that isn’t within his physical capabilities, and naegi isn’t outside as much as the two of them but he is actually a little tanner than, say, his canon sprite, as well!)
..i also just happen to think it’s a nice skin tone with his hair and eyes and in general i draw him more tan than in canon bc it looks nice to me ∠(; ･∀･)

i just use google search without SafeSearch on if i need a pose ref… i don’t like looking at irl nsfw, but my mental library of poses like that isn’t yet big enough for me to do these things without references. i find a pose that’s something like what i need, drag it into photoshop, and black-out the genitals so i don’t have to look at them the whole time.. i’m 11 years old..

i’ll definitely take this as a compliment! though i think it’s good to remember that the circumstances that the sdr2 kids are placed in during the simulation really make them behave in ways that don’t put their character in the best light, komaeda especially. i think tumblr user kamuegi made a really good point in the 4th paragraph of this text post… komaeda’s also sssoo intelligent and i like him a lot for that… and i feel bad about his shitty life circumstances, like that’s not fair, he didn’t sign up for that… nagito komaeda was born innocent

aw anon, who can say.. some people like the idea that things work out in modern au, after they move from their scene phase (the implication being “that’s what u get for being scene trash”); some people think they should get some asap, but like, get walked in on midway or something..
w/ that comic i did, i guess i was kinda trying to say that they’ll get there when they get there. they’RE NOT LIKE SAVING THEMSELVES OR ANYTHIng dear lord no, it’s just. it’s what nanami said on page 3, things will work out exactly when they’re supposed to.
for me that kinda means that, komaeda’s been trying so much to make it happen (re: the skp saga, and several other undrawn attempts) because he thinks that’s what hinata really wants, that it’s really important to hinata, and he feels guilty that his bad luck gets in the way of that. once nagito actually quits worrying about it (re: he did not actually stop worrying about it on page 9), quits overthinking it and blaming himself and all that, then i think the likelihood of it happening will increase.

like, because of that i feel like i have to say yes, he has the same illnesses as in canon
i got it stuck in my head that komaeda dyed his hair from pink to black, and then a year and a half later, when everyone started dying their hair back to their base colors, he had to accept that there wasn’t any way his root colors were the same as they were before, that it was probably all downhill from there. but even acknowledging this he still didn’t wanna spend any more time at the doctors/hospital/anywhere, he’d been there enough in elementary/middle school before he finally made the friend group he has now. when he shows up with light hair, he tells everybody it isn’t a big deal and, upon further questioning, even goes so far as to make up some ridiculous lie like it runs in the family, mhm, really recessive white hair gene, Yeah really
he’s still a weird kid in this au, which i haven’t really gotten across because there’s little dialogue and when there is it’s mostly jokes. gets weirdly attached to ideas and people (mostly referring to junko here) and still believes so little in his own intrinsic value that he latches onto “higher purposes” and other things that’ll remove/downplay his own ‘second-rate self’ from the picture
it’s kinda hard for others to see because they’re around him on a daily basis but he just progressively gets a little harder to understand, loses some of his verbal filter and can go on and on about the same things for a really long time, occasionally spaces out like cats do when they’re intently staring at nothing, seems to reaaaaally like to put himself in dangerous situations
never gets much sleep, which isn’t anything new; disappears sometimes, which isn’t new either but this changes from several hours of absence, of not texting back or being reachable whatsoever, to a day or two at a time. (during the school year at least people can verify that he’s alive but summer vacation and other breaks are a different story)
others start wanting to be around him less and less, they feel bad about it because obviously something’s up with him but he’s just so uncomfortable to be around and he won’t talk about it, flat-out refuses and avoids questions at all costs, and eventually it gets to this point where hinata has to choose between hanging out with komaeda or with everyone else. when hinata’s making plans with friends people’ll hesitantly ask, “uh, should we invite nagito?” and hinata’ll try his best to just shrug like it’s not a big deal and say, “he probably wouldn’t pick up anyway” which is half-true
on one of his disappearances, after two days of hinata having no idea where komaeda is (not at home, obviously, he’s practically never home), hinata actually sets out to track him down and finds him. didn’t even have to go that far, actually, just a handful of blocks out into the suburbs, and then off the sidewalks, across some undeveloped land, down a hill on a dirt path he’d walked way too many times over the years. it’s dawn and komaeda’s standing looking into this one tunnel that he and hinata used to hold hands to walk through when they were kids, before they even started dating, because it’s pitch black in the middle of the tunnel and kinda scary but they’d managed to get through once together and after that it was pretty easy
komaeda looks like hell and a half, and like the breeze is blowing right through him, he’s not even wearing the thick jacket he’d taken to wearing every day (he wears jackets even in the middle of summer these days, rarely complains about being cold but the persistent goosebumps on his skin and shivering aren’t that hard to miss).
hinata, exasperated and a bit light-headed from exhaustion (komaeda’s not the only one who hasn’t been getting much sleep), says “what is WITH you lately,”
and komaeda just keeps looking ahead, like there’s got to be something other than dark in the tunnel if he just looks hard enough, and flatly says, “would you even believe me” and hinata wants to shout back of course i would but honestly komaeda has been lying so frequently, well maybe it’s not “lying” but when he opens his mouth the truth doesn’t come out and you can tell komaeda’s really not seeing the same reality that other people are, he’s not seeing the same reality he used to see
ugh i dont know i have zero emotional resilience for angst, i don’t want komaeda to suffer so when suffering and illness are such a big part of what made him who he is in canon i don’t know

pastel goth au and scene kid au are one and the same! i just call it scene kid au because i tend to draw sdr2 more frequently than dr1. if someone can think of a better, catch-all name for the au that’d be cool… but “scene kid au” just has that je ne sais quoi of ridiculousness that i’m not sure can be otherwise captured

iiii went and looked up henry’s VAing and i’m not sure how i feel„ (i only know of FE because one of my fav artists, barleytea, is a huge fan so i’m not very familiar) i don’t know i’m really just gonna not state any more opinion on this until i have a copy in my hands. i did like hajime’s VA okay in the new trailer though!!

tumblr quality is bad enough that sometimes drawing them just makes the eyes look overexposed so if it’s not a close-up sometimes it looks better to leave them out
beyond that i don’t really know what to say, because i know i do just sometimes Not draw them.. i don’t think most people draw the symbol in his eyes every time, it’s like any other feature that gets omitted from a distance or because it’s not terribly noticeable… i dunno i’ll consider this and try to be more consistent!! eventually being able to draw hinata well is important to me so getting things like this right is probably a step in the right direction haha, thank you for bringing this to my attention 6_9;;
