Kate Walsh to Host the Gala Reception at the LA Opera’s Season-Opening Ball
Kate Walsh of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Private Practice,” “Full Circle” and NBC’s upcoming “ Bad Judge” will launch this year’s season-opening Opera Ball, staged by the LA Opera, by hosting a gala champagne and cocktail reception in the Eva and Marc Stern Grand Hall at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
The first major affair of the Los Angeles social season, the Sept. 13 Ball officially opens the LA Opera’s 2014/2015 season. An opera aficionado, Walsh has attended many LA Opera performances, including last year’s season opener.
Clearly the LA Opera has been amassing fans in the Hollywood community. Stana Katic and Emmy Rossum have both been hosts at previous Opera Ball receptions with two-time Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz of “Inglorious Basterds” and “Django Unchained” and Emmy Award-winner Anna Gunn of “Breaking Bad” among guests.
Following the reception, this year’s Ball will then continue with a performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” sung by Plácido Domingo and Nino Machaidze, directed by Marta Domingo and conducted by James Conlon. Gala-goers will then enjoy a seated dinner, catered by Patina, and dancing on the Music Center Plaza.
In keeping with the production’s lavish art deco sets, the Opera Ball will celebrate the Gatsby era with a Roaring 20s theme. With Mary Hayley as chair, Jill Baldauf as dinner chair and Catherine Marcus as vice chair, the gala will honor Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, a longtime champion of the LA Opera.
Tickets begin at $2,500 with tables ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. Click here for further information or call (213) 972-3612.
