The three surgeons from the Center for Orthopedic Care have joined Summit Medical Group: David A. Abrutyn, M.D., Robert S. Boretz, M.D., and Thomas J. Nordstrom. They will continue to see patients at their current location, 215 Union Avenue, Suite B, Bridgewater, N.J.

David A. Abrutyn, M.D., has expertise in sports medicine, with emphasis on injuries of the knee and shoulder. He also treats pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients for a wide range of orthopedic problems. Dr. Abrutyn’s skills include nonsurgical, surgical, arthroscopic, and other minimally invasive orthopedic surgical techniques and reconstructive orthopedic procedures. He is Team Physician for Somerville Immaculata High School and Sky Blue Football Club (FC) New Jersey Women’s Professional Soccer Team.

In addition to having practiced with the Center for Orthopedic Care, Dr. Abrutyn has been Medical Director of the Somerset Medical Center Joint Surgery Institute, Associate Chair of the Somerset Medical Center Division of Orthopedic Surgery, and Tissue Transplant Director of the Somerset Ambulatory Surgical Center.

Dr. Abrutyn earned his BA at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and he earned his MD at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden. After graduating, he completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. During his residency, Dr. Abrutyn was designated Chief Resident. He completed his fellowship in sports medicine at Southern California Center for Sports Medicine in Long Beach.

Dr. Abrutyn has earned the 2011 and 2012 MDx Medical, Inc. Patient’s Choice Most Compassionate Doctor Award. He is listed among New Jersey’s top doctors.

Robert S. Boretz, M.D., specializes in treating disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder in all age groups. His surgical skills include minimally invasive techniques such as arthroscopy and microsurgery. Dr. Boretz also performs reconstructive and revision procedures of the upper extremities, including the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

In addition to having practiced with the Center for Orthopedic Care, Dr. Boretz has been Chief of Orthopedics at Somerset Medical Center and a faculty member for the Somerset Medical Center Family Practice Residency Program.

Dr. Boretz is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Orthopaedic Surgeons of New Jersey, and Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society.

Thomas J. Nrodstrom, M.D., has expertise in general orthopedic care for children, adolescents, and adults. His expertise includes hand, foot, and ankle injuries as well as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers, and bunions. Dr. Nordstrom also specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive knee replacement and hip replacement.

Before the Center for Orthopedic Care joined Summit Medical Group, Dr. Nordstrom, practiced privately with the Center for Orthopedic Care in Bridgewater, New Jersey. He has been Chief of the Somerset Medical Center Division of Orthopedics, a staff physician for Somerset Medical Center, and a member of the Somerset Medical Center Managed Care Directions Committee. Dr. Nordstrom also has been a clinical instructor for the Somerset Medical Center Family Practice Residency Program.

Dr. Nordstrom is Team Physician for Bridgewater High School. He has been Varsity Football Team Physician for Somerville High School, New Jersey Stars Team Tennis, and the US Olympic Training Center. He has been a sports consultant for Somerville Immaculata High School and a volunteer physician for the Special Olympics and Tour of Somerville Bicycle Races.
