NPR correspondent Carrie Kahn and NPR politics editor Charlie Mahtesian both spent some time on Reddit this week. Charlie hosted a Q&A about the midterm elections and Carrie fielded AMA questions, mostly about the migration of Central Americans to the United States.

Both chats were a reminder that Reddit is a place for both in-depth analysis and lighthearted fun. Carrie gave detailed answers to questions about the Mexican judicial system, and Charlie offered nuanced predictions of political races. But there was plenty of silliness too. One Redditor even asked Charlie about his favorite ice cream flavor (it’s chocolate chip peanut butter, if you were wondering).

Here’s what Charlie (pictured above) had to say about the experience:

Just did my first @reddit Q&A. Pretty neat. Tons of interesting questions and, shockingly for an online forum about politics, no trolling

NPR politics reporters and editors will continue hosting Q&As on the reddit.com/r/NPR site (and, hopefully, on the AMA site) every Tuesday until the midterm elections, so stay tuned!
