More information about Peru’s Independence Day:  “Fiestas Patrias” is celebrated every July 28 to observe the anniversary of Peru’s independence from Spanish rule in the year 1824 by the Argentine liberator General Jose de San Martin.  Every year on this day, Peruvians pay tribute to the great patriots Tupic Amaru, Pumacahua, Aguilar, and Micaela Bastidas for their sacrifices made to re-instate independence.  In Peru celebrations consist of much merriment beginning with the president’s speech, raising the flag, parades, and fireworks.  Fairs exhibit products, foods, crafts, agriculture and livestock.  The following day is enjoyed by families getting together.

Peru known as the “Land of the Ancient Incas”, recently received worldwide recognition when the majestic ruins of Machu Picchu were named one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World.

ABOUT PIO PIO:   Pio Pio is NYC’s premier Peruvian restaurant group, born in 1994 when its first take-out restaurant in Rego Park, Queens opened.  Since then, they have honed their culinary skills to perfection and have become well-known to countless New Yorkers and visitors throughout Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx.

Specializing in Pollos a la Brasa (Rotisserie Chicken), Pio Pio offers the highest standard of quality and service, traditional Peruvian cuisine.  Their Upper West Side restaurant, Pio Pio Salon, was the first to feature an expanded menu.  The Jackson Heights, Queens location features live music every Wednesday played by Grupo Huayno, the Peruvian band renowned for their NYC Subway performances.
