The Society for Neuro-Oncology is delighted to announce the launch of a formal match program for fellowship applicants starting October 2017. This initiative, co-chaired by Drs. John de Groot (MD Anderson) and Scott Plotkin (Massachusetts General Hospital), is a natural next step for neuro-oncology as a growing field. The formal match establishes a first ever public listing of participating fellowship programs, a uniform timeline, and standardized base application documents, which helps to streamline the application process for both applicants and programs. It also provides time to encourage “best fit scenarios”, and establishes separate codes of conduct for applicants and programs.
The match itself will be conducted by the vendor San Francisco Match ("SF Match"), with the Society for Neuro-Oncology serving as a the match sponsor, and the SNO Fellowship Match Committee providing administrative oversight. Members of the fellowship Match Committee include: Dr. John de Groot (co-chair, MD Anderson); Dr. Scott Plotkin (co-chair, Massachusetts General Hospital); Dr. Thomas Kaley (Memorial Sloan-Kettering); Dr. Leia Nghiemphu (University of California, Los Angeles); Dr. Paula Warren (University of Alabama, Birmingham); Dr. Adam Cohen (University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Center); Dr. Katherine Peters (Duke University); and Dr. Joon Uhm (Mayo Clinic)
Applications for the 2019-2020 fellowship year will open and be accepted for review beginning October 1, 2017. For complete information, including a list of requisite application documents and frequently asked questions (FAQs), visit https://www.sfmatch.org/Specialty.aspx and select the “Neuro-Oncology” tab. Candidates are encouraged to directly contact the programs they are interested in to confirm if additional, institution specific, items are required.
