At the young age of 12, Canadian surrealist painter Rob Gonsalves started to experiment with and sketch all manner of strange and unusual pictures using nothing more than his raw imagination. But it wasn't until his early 30's that he started to develop his mind-bending signature artworks.
As a young adult he became exposed to the remarkable work of Escher, Dalí, and Tanguy - artists which inspired him to attempt his first surrealist painting. Twenty years later (now aged 57) he's become universally known and critically admired for his brilliant use of perspective, imaginative storytelling and flawless technique.
"A childhood of daydreaming and drawing has evolved into a career of making paintings that are primarily a celebration of imagination. Along the way I took a detour into the world of Architecture, but after an enthusiastic response to my paintings at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition in 1990, I began painting full time." he explains.
