23 Powerful Emotions You Feel But Struggle To Explain
We've all had days when you've been so overcome with emotions that its virtually impossible to describe how you're feeling. The more dramatic or intense the scenario unfolding in your life, the harder it is to define or describe the emotions surging through your brain.
They split and scatter within seconds, reforming and twisting into something that would simply take too long to describe. A moving target, made up of a million shifting pieces.
The other part of the problem isn't just because there are so emotions many to categorise and quantify, its often because the English language lacks the words to accurately describe your state of mind.
Thankfully John Koenig the creator of the site The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows has come up with his own personal solution. The site acts as a compendium of invented words, designed to help you express yourself more easily.
"Each original definition aims to fill a hole in the language - to give a name to emotions we all might experience but don’t yet have a word for. Each word actually means something etymologically, having been built from one of a dozen languages or renovated jargon" he explains.
With that in mind, here's 23 emotions you've probably experienced (but struggled to explain) finally given context and meaning. We'd love to see these words added to dictionaries around the world. Any system that allows for a greater level of understanding and communication between one another is surely worth celebrating.
