Lifecycle API automates governance and approval workflow for processes and applications

April 8th, 2014 – Los Angeles, CA - SOA Software, an API Management and SOA Governance leader, today announced the Lifecycle API as part of the latest release of its Lifecycle Manager. The Lifecycle API enables businesses to embed workflow and governance controls within cloud and mobile development, providing businesses with agility and control over their assets.

With the growing importance of cloud-based and mobile computing models, organizations need flexible approaches to governing IT and business activities and processes. SOA Software’s Lifecycle Manager introduces a comprehensive set of REST APIs supporting the creation, updating and role-based review of governed IT assets such as services, APIs and apps. These capabilities can be readily integrated into an IT organization’s native tools and processes, increasing organizational agility to respond to changing corporate and regulatory mandates and internal process change.

“Enterprises are increasingly facing demands to extend the functionality of their services to mobile devices and through cloud-based offerings,” said Brent Carlson, Senior Vice President of SOA Software. “However, in some industries and lines of business, they need to regulate, govern, and examine access to these assets. The Lifecycle API offers a platform an organization can use to easily embed workflow and approval processes, striking a balance between accelerating opening up to new digital channels while maintaining control.”

APIs surface technology assets in a business context, and therefore elevate the need for governance beyond IT to include business decision makers.  The Lifecycle API enables the integration of business data collection and decision making into technical processes such as API access grants.

Lifecycle Manager has pre-built integration with SOA Software’s API Gateway and Community Manager, thereby supporting both internal and external development communities. It also offers a variety of new features that make the identification, management and oversight of APIs and other software assets easier. These include:

GitHub Integration – Lifecycle Manager’s AnySource Asset Adapter (ASAA) automation framework has been extended to support GitHub, bringing Lifecycle Manager’s industry leading repository and governance capabilities into cloud-based development communities.

Layered Architecture Visualization - With Asset Relationship Visualization, users can quickly and easily understand asset-to-asset relationships via graphical representation within a browser or IDE. Now users can tag specific assets and visualize tagged assets in separate layers.

Role-Based User Actions – Lifecycle Manager provides the ability for administrators to extend core asset functionality with custom user actions.

Infrastructure Enhancements - Integration support with the latest releases of various supporting technologies – Oracle WebLogic Application Server 12c, JBoss EAP 6, Microsoft Visual Studio 2013, Eclipse 4.3 and Microsoft Windows Server 2012.

Lifecycle Manager is an integral part of SOA Software’s API Management platform that also includes Community Manager and the API Gateway. SOA Software offers the most comprehensive API Management Solution on the market today. It is a secure, robust platform that companies can use to share and manage their APIs with the growing app developer community, their partners, and customers. The platform manages, monitors and secures APIs, ensuring that these APIs deliver the level of service customers and partners require; that corporate and customer information and assets are secure; and that the integrity of the corporate brand is protected.
