America will stand at an unprecedented political crossroads on Nov. 8. Our presidential choice is between an admittedly flawed but highly experienced and tested leader, Hillary Clinton, and a man who deserves to be labeled a dangerous bully, Donald Trump.
It befuddles us that smart, informed people with good intentions still regard Trump’s bid for the presidency as a viable option, or that protest votes should default to third-party candidates. We respect their opinions, but there is one choice, and only one choice, if America has any hope of sustaining its world leadership position and upholding the ideals laid out by the Founding Fathers.

Again, the answer is not Trump.
The presidency is not an entry-level position. It demands a steady hand, cool head, thick skin, mental toughness, diplomatic skills, bipartisan spirit, patience and ability to think rigorously before acting.
Hillary Clinton has honed these necessary traits during her years of public service. She has a record of reaching across political lines to improve the lot of children's health, provide health insurance and compensation to victims, first responders and other heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack, and of negotiating peace agreements with our allies. She's also stood up to Russian President Valdimir Putin, a bully dictator, and to Chinese officials on human rights violations.

The next president must have the diplomatic skills to work alongside foreign allies and adversaries to develop long-lasting and beneficial outcomes for citizens globally. That person must also possess the leadership skills needed to negotiate a reversal of the out-of-control gridlock that has all but halted productivity in Congress — the people we have sent to Washington to work on our behalf to strengthen the republic, not to become entrenched in partisan polarization.
Throughout her service as First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State, Democrat Hillary Clinton has spent nearly 25 years developing the skills, relationships, diplomacy, and knowledge needed to prepare her for the job. She has demonstrated she has the mental toughness, patience, composure, and bipartisan spirit to move the nation forward in matters both foreign and domestic.

Clinton has served as first lady, U.S. senator and secretary of state, building an impressive record of public service and practical political experience. Trump is a real estate tycoon and TV reality personality making his first thrust into electoral politics, promising to shake up Washington and solve the nation's challenges with his deal-making background.
The Meadville Tribune believes Hillary Clinton's background, knowledge of government policies and issues, and diplomatic skills make her the better choice.

This year’s presidential race is a notable exception. After more than a full year of campaigning, it seems obvious to us that Democrat Hillary Clinton is the only candidate remotely qualified to serve as the nation’s chief executive and commander in chief of our armed forces.
We’re not thrilled with all aspects of Clinton’s record, but we find her far preferable to Republican Donald Trump, who has been unmasked during the campaign as out of step with key conservative principles and unfit for high public office.
Clinton is competent and capable of handling the awesome responsibility of being our nation’s commander in chief. She has a lengthy record of service as a senator and secretary of state. She supports protecting U.S. interests and is focused on economic growth.
Though Clinton’s leadership of the State Department from 2009 through 2013 was less than spotless, it had some notable successes. She played a key role in the mission to eliminate Osama bin Laden without alienating the entire Muslim world.

While there is much to admire about Ms. Clinton — her lifelong support of the underprivileged, her public service as first lady, senator from New York state, her term as one of the more-active secretaries of state we have ever had — she is an imperfect candidate.
She has been unnecessarily secretive, foolhardy in both the choice of using a private email server while secretary of state, defending the mistake so long and so vigorously, and being susceptible to the perceived winds of political expediency, as when she supported going to war with Iraq.
However — and this is a HUGE however — she has made it her business to be knowledgeable about matters foreign and domestic, to comport herself with the dignity the office of president demands, to present clear policy positions, to never denigrate anyone based on race, religion or national origin, and to respect the intelligence of the American people.
