Just back from Pitti Bimbo 82 in Florence with news from the Italian kids fashion trade fair which was satisfyingly busy.

“Winds of optimism for international junior fashion have been blowing at the Fortezza da Basso during the current edition of Pitti Immagine Bimbo: packed stands, positive feedback for the latest ideas presented in the collections and the great quality of the members of the trade attending.
The half-time attendance figures show that the number of buyers grew by 5% and, if this trend continues, the total number of buyers should reach 7,000 (there were 6,700 a year ago), and over 10,000 visitors in total.”
This is great news, Pitti Bimbo is the most comprehensive of all the kidswear trade fairs and is a good barometer of current trading.
The themes for fall/winter 16 are a continuation of the current favourite trends such as gold and silver metallic textured fabrics for clothing, accessories and footwear strongly represented. Animal illustrations, polka dots, big florals and bold graphic prints and of course as its the Xmas holiday season plenty of sequin dresses and cute little sequinned bomber jackets.
Hues vary between the hot of scarlet red, orange and vivid pink to many cool emerald greens and china blues with autumnal shades, monochrome greys and winter whites filling in. There was a move towards a wider loose trouser in pyjama or hip hop styles.
Space was the big new kids fashion trend with the Il Gufo catwalk an incredible planetary system encounter and I’ll do a fuller report on that show later in the week.
New launches included a mini me line for the well known women’s brand No21 and my favourite new find by an ex- Scotch and Soda designer Les Coyotes de Paris which is a very refined, chic and sophisticated line.
