CIFF Kids continually is updating and renewing itself with new kids fashion labels and old favourites this season looking forward to spring 2017 styles.

The lifestyle section is increasing and the trade fair was a sellout in its new home at the Forum in Copenhagen. It is simply the most stylish and relaxing of all the fairs with its Scandi cool vibe.

New labels are great for us hardened journalists to see, there is a little bit of a stasis at the moment going on as many buyers require the same old styles that sell well in a new colour or a new print and the journalists who are hoping to see something invigorating and new to write about are getting a bit bored. However the brands do need to understand their customers and at present there would not seem to be many options but to keep your buyers happy.

Far too many labels currently are relying on a base of cotton jersey leggings, T-Shirts and sweatshirts with individual printing, its an understandable reaction to the current economic circumstances and it does keep prices at an affordable level but its also a little bit dull. Plus, your prints have to be very good indeed to stand out. In some ways there is more variety out there than ever before but it is also variety we’ve seen before.

This is not specific to CIFF Kids but is at every trade fair I’ve seen this season, there are a few new labels which do attempt a different approach but its a struggle for them to compete with the price points of the simpler lines. Many of the Italian and Spanish labels suffer from a similar mentality but there the market is more geared to ceremony so its the gathered tulle or decorated dress which dominates.

At CIFF Kids there was a cool new line with interesting cuts from City Goats, the fabulous Dutch label Les Coyotes de Paris and the best collection yet from Little Remix with a wonderful large detail lace fabric. Christina Rohde had a comprehensive collection with gorgeous printed bomber jackets in silk and in boyswear both Someday Soon, Wild and Mallow win with their prints. Prints are really dominant and important at the moment, kidswear is awash with them but not many labels try the mix and match approach of Gucci which would spice things up.

Popupshop are also always ahead of the curve with prints and have introduced fruits for next spring which may be taking over from animal inspiration while for animal prints they and Wild have dropped the fluffy and cute for the reptilian tortoise and lizards. Newer prints now have an drawn overprint on top of a photorealistic one, or clothes are made with patched prints with a different sleeve or hem.
