Addition to the second idea:
(this one is corny but whatever) Later, the drill sergeant (Ian) looks for his soldiers, and finaly he finds them in a confectionary eating some juicy cake. He is furious, he literaly marches in to the shop with his face litaraly red (exagerated make-up) because he is so mad, and there is even some steam comming from under his hat. He yells at the soldiers - something like: "What in da [whatever] are you imbeciles doing here!!?", and one of them from the background raises his hand and replies: "Well, we were in a restoraunt - we ate, and now we're desserting."
(deserting, get it?) ...a - ha, ha, ha, ha.
