The days of Perth not having anything decent going on are well past us. At any given time we have a selection of food events and workshops to attend, and a great variety of food on offer at venues all over town. And then we have the venues that cater for both that side of us that is yearning to get creative and as well as our bellies. Food Amongst the Flowers is one such place.
Nestled in Claremont Quarter, Food Amongst the Flowers is the baby of chef Iain Lawless. A pop-up style marketplace that caters to the hungry and those seeking a feast for the eyes. There is the likes of Botanica Naturalis with her pretty flowers and quirky decorations, The Honeycake (if you don’t know about The Honeycake I feel for you), Turban Chopsticks, Nestle & Crush, BonPussy and more. I am good friends with Anna of Botanica Naturalis so of course my first intention was to pop down and say hello, give her a hug and sneak off with a pretty bunch of flowers. But my visits have turned into so much more.
Last week I tried the potato ricotta kofta balls with butter curry and naan from Turban Chopsticks washed down with a delightfully refreshing lychee beverage. Very satisfying. Today I went along to sneak a peek at a mossball workshop held by Anna and wrapped my chops around Turban Chopsticks’ onion bhaji rings and sweet potato bhaji with green apple chilli jam which is apparently slow cooked with chilli and garlic. All kinds of yes.
And then there were mossballs.
