Last month on our
blog, we tried to get you hyped about the debut of the new
Toyota Hybrid-R Concept that was released at this month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
Well that big event in Germany has come and gone and has left us with one of
the most innovative and cutting-edge pieces of hybrid technology we have ever
seen.

We know that some might have broken hearts when we
let them know that the Hybrid-R Concept wasn't the Supra replacement that we
speculated would be debuted. In fact, the Hybrid-R Concept came in the form of
a Toyota
Yaris.

Audiences at the motor show were slightly
underwhelmed when the sheet was pulled off the new concept and they were face
to face with a white Yaris. That was only until they learned what this crazy
new concept was packing under the hood.

This special Hyrbid-R Concept was built to showcase
new technology more than new design. The vehicle is powered by a 1.6-liter
direct-injection turbocharged engine capable of generating a whopping 300
horsepower. That powerplant is paired with two electric motors located in the
rear wheels of the Yaris. The electric motors are powered by a special
supercapactor as opposed to a large battery which means they each can generate
60 horsepower a piece. What we were left with was a Toyota Yaris boasting some
cool new exterior styling that can achieve 420 horsepower and has all-wheel
drive.

We certainly hope that Toyota doesn't wait too long
before implementing some of this new technology. The current lineup of new Toyota
models can definitely stand to gain such a mix of performance and efficiency.
You can learn more about Toyota technology when you visit the Sterling
McCall Toyota showroom located at 9400 Southwest Freeway
Houston, TX. We hope to see you soon.
