Diapers created specifically for preemies

According to the World Health Organization, about 15 million babies are born prematurely every year. Some can weigh anywhere from 1 to 5 pounds so finding a diaper that will fit their tiny frame is hard. Stepping in to fill that need in North America is diaper maker Huggies, which has created the world's smallest diaper called the Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers. "These diapers are made explicitly for babies weighing less than two pounds (900 grams), and specially designed to protect the delicate skin of premature babies, while promoting healthy growth and development," according to the company's press release. Huggies says it worked closely with Neonatal Intensive Care Units' (NICU) nurses and neonatal therapists to help design the diaper line.

The brand says each and every diaper goes through a rigorous inspection process, which includes a 40-point hand inspection, and are “individually folded and hand-packed with care for these vulnerable babies.”

Nine hospital NICUs had tested the diaper.  "In our experience, we found Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers conformed to the baby's bottom without gapping or limiting leg movement. The thinner fasteners and less material at the waist provided a good fit for baby while still protecting their fragile skin," says Anjanette Lee, MS, CCC/SLP, NTMTC, an infant development specialist at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston, Texas. The preemie diapers will be primarily distributed to hospital NICUs in the U.S. (babble.com)
