The Southern Medical Journal is pleased to welcome Dr. Kristen Plastino to its Editorial Board. Dr. Plastino is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA).

Dr. Plastino received a bachelor’s and doctorate in pharmacology from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. She then attended the University of South Florida Medical School, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, graduating in 1999. Dr. Plastino joined the department at UTHSCSA as an Assistant Professor in July, 2003 after completion of her residency at this institution. She is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her special interests are in sex education, adolescent gynecology, and resident work hours. Dr. Plastino is the director of the sex education program at the UT Health Science Center and was recently awarded a five-year, $10 million grant from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop a model of community sex education to teens.
