GhostBed Mattress Review
Construction
The GhostBed mattress is a 11″ all foam mattress built from 3 different layers. Unlike most foam mattresses, GhostBed has 3.5″ of comfort foam which creates great deep compression support.
Top layer (cooling & comfort) – this layer consists of 1.5″ of aerated latex foam. This layer helps to relieve pressure points and responds almost instantaneously. Additionally, this layer was designed to provide great cooling, bounce, and feel.
Middle layer (support & pressure relief) – the second layer is made up of 2″ of gel memory foam. This layer also aids in pressure relief, but focuses mainly on the support. Both basic support and deep compression support are factored into this layer. The gel memory foam is less responsive than the top layer, which is why it has been placed in between the top and bottom. Finally, the gel infusion helps to prevent heat retention.
Bottom layer (foundation) – acting as the foundation for the above layers, this layer is built from 7.5″ of high density support foam.
GhostBed layers (top to bottom) – 1.5″ aerated latex foam, 2.0″ gel memory foam, 7.5″ support foam
Cover
Designed with 100% polyester, the top piece of the GhostBed’s cover is both soft and stretchy. This fabric has the ability to immediately snap right back into place for a smooth look. The side panels of the GhostBed are made from a combination of polyester (51%) and polypropylene (49%).
Aesthetically, the cover of the GhostBed is fairly standard. Although there is a very smooth transition from the white surface to the grey side panels, the color scheme has become the staple design for many online mattress companies online. However, GhostBed did a good job of creating smooth transitions and an overall very durable cover.

Cleaning the cover is a simple task with the GhostBed. There is a zipper that allows for easy removal of the cover for easy spot cleaning (cover is not machine washable).
Firmness, Feel, & Support
Coming in at a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, with 10 being the most firm, the GhostBed is a medium to slightly firmer mattress. This is a mattress designed to meet the needs of a wide array of sleepers.
The GhostBed mattress is a little different than most mattresses I have tested. Upon initial contact with the mattress, it will feel closer to a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Yet, the mattress seemed to soften up after lying on it for a period of time. In addition, the combination of latex and memory foam came together for nice balanced level of comfort, support, and responsiveness. The latex layer was placed on top to provide that instant response, which also helped avoid heat retention and that “stuck” feeling traditional foam mattresses have. With that said, the memory foam below the latex is slower to respond. Once the memory foam adapts to the shape of your body, it will continue to offer great support and body contouring.
GhostBed firmness – 6.5 out of 10 (where 10 is the most firm)
Regarding cooling, during my sleep test I never felt as if the mattress was retaining any heat or creating hot spots in general. The 1.5″ of aerated latex foam and 2″ of gel memory foam do a good job of dissipating heat in addition to improving airflow. The polyester cover is a nice addition to the mattress as well, really rounding off the ability for the mattress to breathe and provide cooler sleep.
Finally, support. Most people tend to believe that if a mattress softens up after lying on it for a while, that it will also lose support. The GhostBed did a great job of defeating that common misconception and maintaining a great level of support. After sleeping in a variety of positions, I found that the GhostBed supported me extremely well. The mattress also did a great job relieving pressure points that my body tried to create. Not to mention, my spine felt properly aligned throughout my sleep test on the GhostBed.

Casper Mattress Review
Construction
The Casper mattress is built from 3 layers of foam. The construction is 100% foam and it has a total thickness of 9.5″.
Top layer (comfort + cooling) – this top layer is 1.5″ of latex foam. Latex creates great bounce, cooling, and comfort for the mattress. The layer of latex is placed on top of memory foam to help prevent any heat retention issues the memory foam could create.
Middle layer (support + pressure relief) – the middle core layer is a 1.5″ layer of memory foam. Memory foam is slower to respond and sleeps warmer than latex, but by placing it within the core of the mattress it allows it to create support and pressure relief for sleepers.
Bottom layer (foundational support) – lastly, the bottom layer is 6.5″ of high density support foam. This layer simply acts as a foundational support layer.
Casper foam layers (top to bottom) – 1.5″ latex, 1.5″ memory foam, 9.5″ support foam
Cover
Casper also offers the two-tone cover that seems to have become the go-to design for mattress covers. The top cover is quite porous and made from 100% polyester. The mix of these two qualities helps to provide cooling and breathability. The grey side panels are imported from Belgium and the white fabric is sourced and made in the USA.
The white fabric being so porous is also quite delicate. Last time I was moving my Casper the white fabric got caught and ripped a sizable hole in the fabric. You’ll want to be very careful with the Casper for this reason.

Firmness, Feel, & Support
The Casper falls at a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the most firm), meaning it is considered a medium firm mattress. Similar to the GhostBed, Casper sits in the “universal comfort” category and strives to meet the needs of most sleepers. That said, the Casper will feel slightly different depending on body type / size. For heavier sleepers, the Casper will feel closer to a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. This is directly related to increased sinkage through the comfort foams. The deeper you sink, the closer you are to the more dense, harder foams.
Casper is a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale (where 10 is the most firm). Heavier sleepers may find it is closer to a 7.
As a lighter sleeper, I still saw a fairly pronounced hug from the Casper mattress (about 1-1.5″ of sinkage) while lying normally on my back. With a top layer of latex, the Casper does not give sleepers that trapped feeling that some memory foam mattresses can. The amount of sinkage is similar, but the latex works to avoid that exaggerated memory hug. Although the support from the Casper is average, the top layer of latex does provide great bounce and response.

Should I buy the GhostBed or Casper Mattress?
Now, it all comes down to the big question…which mattress should you buy, GhostBed or Casper? After several sleep tests on both of these mattresses, I have come to the conclusion that GhostBed is simply the better choice. GhostBed’s added comfort layers, great support, and overall well rounded performance crushes Casper in a side-by-side comparison.
The bottom line...GhostBed has a thicker comfort layer, thicker overall profile, higher foam poundage, and costs less money. The layered design creates great cooling and comfort, and very good support. In my opinion it’s simply a better mattress. Lastly, it’s $150 less than Casper (when you use the discount).
I would recommend the GhostBed mattress to sleepers who:
Enjoy a medium to slightly firmer mattress – initially, the GhostBed mattress will feel like a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the most firm). Yet, as you continue to lie on the mattress you will notice an increased level of softness. After a few moments the mattress will settles in to a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
Want latex + memory foam – with a latex top layer on top, you will get the benefits of added bounce, comfort, and responsiveness. Yet, you still receive great body contour, pressure relief, and support from the memory foam. The combination of these layers provide a unique feel at first and an even more enjoyable feel after more time spent on the mattress.
Want more + better foam materials – In a side by side comparison the GhostBed simply has more comfort foam material than the Casper (3.5″ vs. 3″). Half an inch may not sound like much, but it without question makes a notable difference in the comfort and feel. Additionally, in a comparison of foam poundage (PCF = poundage per cubic feet) the GhostBed is simply using better stuff. Higher poundage generally indicates better durability and foam longevity. Higher poundage means there is literally more foam material being used. Ghostbed has a thicker memory foam layer (2″ vs. 1.5″), thicker base layer (7.5″ vs. 6.5″), denser latex layer (3.5 PCF vs. 3.3 PCF), and denser support foam (2.0 PCF vs. 1.8 PCF), all which help to improve durability, longevity, and quality.
Want a cool mattress – once again, the latex top layer plays a huge roll in keeping the mattress very cool. Not to mention, the middle layer of memory foam is infused with gel, only adding to the cooling properties. The 3.5″ of comfort foam are designed with high quality cooling materials that prevent any sort of unwanted heat build up.
Need deep compression support – as an 11″ mattress, the GhostBed has a nice level of deep compression support. Both heavy and lighter sleepers will be supported on this mattress, as the 3.5″ of comfort foams work very well with the 7.5″ of support foam to provide a very balanced feel.
