Hey guys, this is Defiant Glow. I wanted to show you my top 10 Korean dramas that I loved and cherish. Most of these dramas include romance and comedy. I hope I can convince you to try a few as you read my thoughts about them.

10 – Inspiring Generation

This drama was aired in 2014 January – April (24 episodes)

(Watch here)

Synopsis:

The story follows the life Shin Jung Tae (Kim Hyun Joong) as he grows from a young child looking after his ill sister to a kick-ass gangster who searches for answers related to his father’s past and his sister who mysteriously disappears. There is a constant struggle between the different gangs and factions that are based on the eastern countries of Asia.

My opinion:

If your a fan of Kim Hyun Joong I suggest you watch this because his acting in here is far more different than in boys before flowers and Mischievous kiss. He is shown as a much cooler guy that fights for what he believes in. This drama had me in tears and, although I hate sad dramas/movies, I enjoyed it. The sadness was what made me like it even more. Most dramas I watch are more based on the romance story however this was mostly based on the story line which I loved.

The action in this was very interesting to watch and again I found it cool. So for you action lovers I recommend this drama because there is a lot of fighting with different styles of combat and discipline. The music used in the background was also one that I enjoyed and found “cool”.

Rating: 7/10

9 – Goong/Princess Hours

This drama was aired in 2006  (24 episodes)

(Watch here)

Synopsis:

This drama is about young love in face of tradition, politics and intrigue. In Modern day Korea the royal family is to live in a grand place called “Goong”. The story opens when the King suddenly dies. His son is placed for the throne however he is also in bad condition and so the crown prince, Lee shin (Joo Ji Hoon), needed to find a bride. Headstrong, awkward and sweet spirited Shin Chae Kyung (Yoon Eun Hye) happens to go to the same art school as the prince. Chae Kyung was chosen to be the Crown princess because of a promise between both Chae Kyung and Lee Shin’s grandfathers. How will ordinary Chae Kyung be able to fulfil her duties as a crown princess?

My Opinion:

This drama had one of the greatest love stories. The part I enjoyed the most was the acting of Yoon Eun Hye. She was funny, entertaining and I just loved her personality. For me, she’s my favorite lead actress. She was an average girl that lived among the world but somehow got chosen to be the princess. It was obvious she was not made for royalty and detested her princess lessons but she managed. This drama made me laugh so much because of her and made this drama very enjoyable.

Rating: 7/10

8 – Dream High

This drama was aired in 2011 (16 episodes)

(Watch here)

Synopsis:

Dream high is about 6 high school students who have the dream to become kpop idols. They attend a school called Kirin art. This school was for singers, dancers, composers and any other unique abilities. The story revolves around a snobby, obnoxious girl named Go Hye Mi (Suzy). She majored in classical music but had to give up her dream by entering Kirin art high school to pay of her father’s debts. However by failing the audition, the only way to get in is for two other students to join as well, Jin Gook (Taecyeon) and Soom Sam Dong (Kim Soo Hyun). Hye Mi also finds herself a rival who was her x-best friend and sidekick that she betrayed in the auditions.

My Opinion:

This drama was a little different to the rest. Although the others were great, this particular one was very fun to watch. It was about talented students attending an art school that also had tons of competitions and tests. This drama was also what got me listening to k-pop. I enjoyed the actor Jason (Wooyoung) and Jin Gook (Taecyeon) who I found out were kpop idols that were from a group called 2pm and I naturally was obsessed over them. Of course this made me like the Drama more because Wooyoung (the love of my life) was starring in it and I very much enjoyed his character. He was known to the be the most gifted and skillful student in the school, he was also supposed to be great in speaking English however in real life his “English skills” weren’t that good which I found funny. I also found his love story with Pil Sook (IU) cute. They were just too adorable.

Rating: 7.5/10

7 – You’re Beautiful

This drama was aired in 2009 (16 episodes)

(Watch here)

Synopsis:

Go Mi Nyu (Park Shin Hye) was all set to become a nun. Unfortunately the idol group A.N.JELL needed a new singer as the lead vocal, Hwang Tae Kyung’s (Jang Geun Suk), voice was hurting. Mi Nyu’s twin brother Go Mi Nam was set to be the new member however he had to go to the states to repair a blotched eye job before signing the contract. His agent came up with the idea of Mi Nyu taking Mi Nam’s place whilst pretending to be a boy. Would the other Members figure it out or would she somehow keep it a secret?

My Opinion:

This was the second Korean drama I had watched and I loved it. Afterwards I realized the drama had both Lee Hong Ki from FTisland and Jung Hyung Hwa from CNBLUE in it. The two were probably my favorite and of course I had to watch it again.

The many times Mi Nyu could have gotten caught for her identity would make the watcher start to panic and watch more. This was an amazing Korean drama that I would recommend for everyone to watch.

Rating: 8/10

6 – Full House

This drama aired in 2004 (16 episodes)

(Watch here)

Synopsis:

Han ji eun (Song Hye Kyo) is an aspiring scriptwriter. One day her two best friends trick her into believing that she has won a free vacation whilst they sell her house which was made by her late father. On her plane she meets a famous actor called Lee Young Jae (Rain). Little does she know that Young Jae is the man that bought the house. Ji Eun manages to convince him to let her live with him in return on being a maid however because of Young Jae’a jealous actions they end up with a contract for a marriage that lasts 6 months.

My opinion:

This show is attention grabbing from the very first episode. Although contract marriages are very cliché, the acting was so natural and realistic . It would make you laugh, smile and even sympathize with the characters.  The actress Song Hye Kyo is by far one of the prettiest girls in k-dramas I have ever seen and I enjoyed watching the drama as she was the lead role.

Rating: 8/10

5 -Protect The Boss

This drama was aired in 2011 (18 episodes)

This drama is about a girl name Noh Eun-Seol (Choi Khang Hee) who is seen as tough and strong. She struggles to find a job because of her juvenile delinquent record and poor academic background. Unfortunately her Boss is none other than Cha Ji Heon (Ji Sung) who is an immature young man that is terrible at his job. Eun Seol is determined and not willing to give up however her job is harder than she would have thought.

My Opinion:

If looking for comedy, this drama would be the first of my choice. It’s a brilliant love story between a boss and her secretary. I enjoyed this very much and could watch it over again without being uninterested. For me romance is my favorite genre and this was a cute love story that made me smile.

Rating: 8.5/10

They met when Joo Won mistakes her as an actress and from there starts a bickering relationship. However in certain, strange events they manage to swap bodies.

My opinion:

This was one of the first Korean dramas I had watched and managed to find it very loving and heart touching. I would recommend this drama to a bunch of people who love Romance and melodramas and think that the story line was superb.

Rating: 8.5/10

3 – Personal Taste/Personal Preference

The drama was aired in 2010 (16 episodes)

(Watch here)

Park Kae In (Son Ye Jin) is a girl that’s very trusting but has a habit of being betrayed.  Jeon Jin Ho (Lee Min Ho) is a straight man pretending to be gay in order to become Park Kai In’s roommate. Jin ho is a clean freak who loves to iron however Kae In is the exact opposite. She doesn’t notice the mess around her till Jin Ho informs her. Eventually he falls in love with her but how will Kae In react to her roommate not being gay?

My opinion:

What got me watching this was Lee Min Ho (who is also in boys before flowers). His character in this particular drama was much different and although I love Gu Jun Pyo I also enjoyed Jin Ho’s personality.

Kae In was troubled. Her best friend betrayed her and she needed a helping hand. Her character was played realistically and she was also quite humorous.

Rate: 9/10

2 -Mischievous Kiss/Playful Kiss

This drama aired in 2009 (16 episodes)

(Watch here)

Synopsis:

Oh Han Ni (Jung So Min) is a sweet lively girl who has a crush on the smartest boy in the school Baek Seung Jo (Kim Hyun Joong). Ha Ni is not that bright of a child (not clever) and unfortunately Seung Jo only likes “clever” girls. When she confesses to him through a letter he brings it back to her after grading it harshly and also says how much he hates stupid girls.

Ha Ni’s house suddenly collapses in a earthquake. Han ni’s fathers friend offers for them to stay at his house till they sort things out but little does Han Ni know that  her dads friend is none other than Seung Jo’s father.

My Opinion:

I loved this drama because of the actor Kim Hyun Joong. The drama was funny and also fun to watch. Even the side actors made me laugh. one think i liked about the drama was the anticipation, if Han NI was actually going to end up with Seung Jo and how because they were two completely different people.

Rating: 9.5/10

1-Boys Before Flowers

This drama aired in 2009 (24 episodes)

(Watch here)

Synopsis:

Geum Jan Di (Koo Hye Sun) is an ordinary girl from a low class family. Her father owns a dry cleaning store while her mother works at a public bath. When delivering dry cleaning to a student at the prestigious Shin Hwa high school, she finds herself saving a life and so is given a  full swimming scholarship. However things aren’t going that great for her because of the 4 boys that rule the school as well as the one that leads them, Gu Jun Pyo (Lee Min Ho) who is planning on ruining her life.

My opinion:

By far this is the greatest Korean drama I have seen. Its funny and also has a love story you can’t endure. Although Romance and comedy were supposed to be the main aspects of the drama, I found few bits of the story quite sad and ended up shedding a few tears.

The characters were incredible and ones you would gain to like a lot. The 4 rich boys that ran the school all had different personalities that were enjoyable. Geum Jan Di and Gu Jun Pyo were both amusing characters that entertained you. The little romantic moments that happened made my heart flutter. How much Jun Pyo cares for Jan Di makes the watcher feel so happy.

Rating: 10/10
