Job Description
Schlumberger has an opening in Houston, Texas for a Microsoft Project Deployment Scheduler. The Microsoft Project Deployment Scheduler will play a key role in developing complex Microsoft Project Schedules, and maintaining them in a Project Server environment. In an initial stage, the Microsoft Project Scheduler will work together with a consultancy company to complete development of the schedules within the PMO team, in support of the Transformation program. After gaining a deep knowledge of the Transformation program, the scheduler will be responsible for capturing the future schedule changes from the business sponsors, providing feedback and analysis of change impact, overseeing the change process, and providing ongoing support and administration of the project schedules within the Project Server environment.
The development/maintenance of project schedules within the PMO will depend on interaction with multiple Transformation business leaders and the technical support team which requires strong communication skills to ensure the needs are properly understood and implemented correctly in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
• Leadership:
o Have project management background and be well versed in the project management discipline.
o Guide conversations based on Transformation method fundamentals.
o Understand the current Transformation PMO strategy and company vision, and how these relate to the PMO services and the scheduler role.
o Understand the plan developed by the PMO team to deliver ongoing project scheduling services.
o Provide thought leadership in the best practices for project management as it relates to the Transformation scheduling tasks.
o Manage the execution of assigned tasks within the transformation plan in collaboration with the PMO organization.
• Management
o Plans and manages personal tasks and delivers to committed timelines.
o Defines and manages schedules in collaboration with business leadership.
o Mitigates issues by proactively managing risk and escalation to management when required.
o Manages expectations of direct Manager, PMO team members, and Transformation business leadership.
o Provides regular reporting to management on task progress.
o Follows established project methodology and PMO standards.
o Manages the continuous Improvement of the processes for schedule management and change management as they will need to evolve during the existence of the program.
o Defines solutions for automating schedule management tasks, communicates these requirements to the technical team, and oversees the delivery. Must be responsible for making sure to continuously improve these tools assessing their usage / new requirements and addressing them accordingly.
• Technical Delivery
o Apply analysis skills to capture the business input, documenting and validate schedule needs, determining the schedule feasibility within the process guidelines, and manage business user expectations.
o Perform Schedule Analysis, as reporting on the impact of proposed changes to the schedules will play an important role in the success of the Transformation PMO. The candidate must have experience with performing both risk analysis and impact analysis on project schedules with an understanding of critical path analysis, schedule integrity, and task progress reporting.
o Develops and modifies Microsoft Project schedules with an understanding of task dependencies, predecessors & successors, task assignments, milestones, task types, schedule baselines, custom fields, task formulas, total slack, task work, task durations.
o Perform automation of complex labor intensive project modification tasks by using the Microsoft Project macros
o Ability to navigate and present the schedule to business users using custom views, tables, filters, and groups.
o Competent in agile delivery of support and simple solution configurations.
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering
Experience/Skills
• PMP Certification required
• 5+ years of technology experience in a Microsoft windows based environment
• Managed Complex schedules
• Competent with Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel
• Proven track record of managing projects, tracking and reporting progress with Microsoft Project
• Experience managing Microsoft Project schedules with Microsoft Project Server (a plus)
• Demonstrated experience working within a PMO organization
• Comprehension of Project Management methodologies
• Knowledge of reporting concepts and developing reports from Microsoft Project
• Understanding of web based applications such as SharePoint
• Passion for technology and team work!
Technical Skills
• Certified in Managing Projects with Microsoft Project 2013 (74-343)
• Microsoft Project Professional schedule development, and Project Server integration
• Developing Presentations in PowerPoint
• Automating schedule tasks with macros
