Social Media Editor
Do you always know what the biggest story of the day is before anyone else? Can you smell an Internet hoax from a mile away? Do you love to game the things you post online to see how viral you can make them, even if it’s just on your own Facebook feed? Do you find yourself reading through your social media feeds, rewriting other people’s share texts in your head?

This gig is for you. Slate is looking for a true Internet connoisseur who is passionate about experimentation to help build our social media presence by focusing on the big platforms (Facebook and Twitter) and by investigating and developing strategies for emerging ones.

The Role

Our social media editor will work with the director of strategy and audience development to:

Manage our existing accounts and new platform opportunities as they arise

Help define the day-to-day voice of Slate’s feeds

Develop new distribution opportunities for our content

Closely work with the editorial team from the moment a story is conceived to make sure it reaches maximum potential by the time it’s published

Keep close watch on data and user patterns to continually improve how we serve our audience

Build and manage digital partnerships

What we’re looking for:

Two to five years of social media or digital strategy experience, or proof that you’ve built something special in the digital content space

Great distribution ideas you’ve been waiting to try that could help bring readers and viewers to the amazing work Slate produces

An eye for detail and organization—you work quickly; you get the facts right; and you write precise, crisp, error-free sentences. (If they’re witty too, even better.)

You’re not afraid of numbers or spreadsheets, and you see patterns quickly and draw logical conclusions from them

You like teaching others what you know.

Start date: ASAP.

The position is full-time, with benefits, based out of New York. Qualified candidates should apply by June 30. Slate welcomes candidates from all backgrounds. To apply, click here.
