Two Skidmore students have taken it upon themselves to help their wonderfully talented peers link up with prospective employers in the Saratoga Springs community. Called Open Canvas, the matchmaking service pairs “students with local projects that require their unique skill set.” Do you design websites? Open Canvas will find you a business that needs a website! How about social media? Of course you fucking know about social media; you’re a college student! Just throw some fancy words in like synergize or branding and you’ve got yourself a job as the social media coordinator for Polo Ralph Lauren!
Open Canvas is the brainchild of Ezra Levy ’15, who after being “asked to reimagine and recreate [a] theatre’s outdated branding..found a student to produce the marketing material for the art theatre which would go on to boost attendance by over 20% per week.” Go Ezra! He realized that Saratoga Springs businesses can benefit from a creative network like Skidmore and intenders to capitalize. Go Ezra!
Skidmore students are invited to submit portfolios and skill sets on Open Canvas’s website. Businesses and nonprofits can also request a “college creative” to serve their needs.
