TIP #1

“One of the most important tips that I tell my couples when it comes to engagement portraits is to remember to clean your ring!  Many couples are busy thinking about their outfits, hair and makeup that they tend to overlook the engagement ring (which is an important part of their outfit).  I have even had a bride leave her engagement ring at home.  If you do not have time to take your ring in for a professional cleaning, gently and carefully wash your ring with soap and water.  Make sure when you dry your ring to use a towel that will not leave lint.  Photographers love taking photos of your ring and you will want it to shine and look it’s best!”

TIP #2

Most couples have two outfits. One more casual and one more dressier. When choosing outfits its best to remember to coordinate rather than match. Stay away from tiny patterns, they don’t photograph well. Accessorize. Bold jewelry and colored shoes photograph really well. Keeping in mind that we want you to look like you and are comfortable.

TIP #3

Clients should prepare 2-3 outfits.  One for more casual vibes and the other more formal feeling.

TIP #4

We love colorful clothing on our clients since we get inspired by colors a lot!

TIP #5

Couples outfits should compliment each other rather than match. I always tell my couples to wear something that they can easily move in and something they don’t mind getting wet! Most of my sessions end at the beach and it’s a bummer if the couple can’t play in the surf because they’re worried about their wardrobe.

TIP #6

I also tell them that the scenery can be anything from lava fields, tall cane grass and greenery, to the soft pastels that come with the sunset. Keeping that color scheme in mind, choosing an outfit that is versatile and subtle is the best choice for Maui portrait session! Often times couples will bring more than one outfit to accommodate location changes!

TIP #7

Be Stylish, cute, and comfy! Complementary colors will really pop in photos (Example: the pink & blue outfits) Wear something that you feel you look amazing in, but also something comfy enough to sit for a few images as well! Statement jewelry is always great for visual interest in photos, and will add a modern touch. Your outfits should always reflect your personalities as a couple so that you feel comfortable. Have fun with it! Engagement photos are something that will last a lifetime, so be sure to choose the perfect outfit!

TIP #8

Do not buy anything specifically for your engagement session. Wear something you’re comfortable in and have worn before so that you know how it moves, how it fits, and your limitations in the outfit. That way you look comfortable in your photos.

TIP#9

Match your outfit to your setting. In these images you’ll notice they’ve dressed casual but cute, and had they been in a formal gown or even in a flannel and cowboy boots, it just wouldn’t have worked as well.

TIP#10

Bring pieces you can layer, especially when you don’t have time for outfit changes. You’ll notice that the army colored jacket mostly covers the top she’s wearing and makes it look like she’s wearing two outfits when she really just brought some layering pieces and a change of shoes.
