Blog On MOSI with Canvas Holidays – a blog by Kelly

Blogging is one of the largest growing media industries in the UK and these days you can find a blog for anything. Parenting, fashion, beauty, football, DIY, health and fitness, exotic pets, Donald Trump’s hair – the list really is endless.

Gone are the days where it was seen as a hobby for people with no interpersonal skills, blogging has grown into a multi-million pound industry with bloggers being recognised as influencers to a wide range of audiences and top bloggers earning £20,000 upwards on brand partnerships. Earlier this month, we attended the annual Blog On conference at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester with our client Canvas Holidays. Blog On was started by Laura Seaton in 2013, who shared some of the background of the conference with us:

“Blog On started in 2013 to provide Northern Bloggers with a conference event that focused on working with brands and how to do this in a professional manner. The very first event was for 70 bloggers and over the last four years I have hosted six events and increased the attendee numbers up to 150 and even then there were people still on the waiting list. I had attended a few different blog conferences in the past and had seen what worked and what didn’t and used that experience to create a friendly experience that both new bloggers and more experienced bloggers would feel comfortable to attend.”

We also asked Laura, who runs her own hugely successful Tired Mummy of Two blog, how the blogging industry has changed since she first started blogging:

“The blogging industry has changed a lot over the past four years and I think that is mostly down to bloggers becoming more aware of the rules and regulations that are out there. I also think that bloggers are becoming more widely recognised which has brought about some of these changes. You can’t just start up your own blog and leave it at that anymore; you need to know all about the legalities of cookies, disclosure, data protection and so much more. I also think that more bloggers are treating their blog as their business which is a change that I support as it makes the relationships with brands a lot easier.”

We have worked closely with Canvas Holidays over the past three years to develop a comprehensive blogger programme with eight influential parenting bloggers from around the UK. The bloggers have been tasked with providing counsel on new family developments by the holiday company, experiencing the product for themselves through press trips, Twitter Q&As and sharing honest and authentic reviews with their audiences.

Blog On was a great way of meeting new bloggers from a range of disciplines and getting the Canvas Holidays brand out there. Throughout the day, attending bloggers were treated to talks by a number of industry experts, crafting workshops, a giant ball pit by Swizzles – yes it was as good as it sounds – and a speed-packing competition from Canvas Holidays.
