Christian Café vs. eHarmony–which is better? Since we ranked eHarmony the highest in our Best Christian Dating Sites review, it’s only fair that we let you know how it stacks up against each individual dating site we’ve reviewed. When it comes to specifically-Christian dating sites, Christian Café is great.
It’s just that when we compare it to the bigger sites that aren’t specifically-Christian but do offer Christians a place for online dating, Christian Café just can’t quite compete.
eHarmony vs. Christian Café :: The Breakdown
::Christian Matches
Chances are you’re going to find more like-minded Christians on Christian Café than you would on eHarmony. The biggest reason is because you are able to answer all kinds of questions, even down to how many times you attend church and how you would define your faith. Of course we’re fans of eHarmony’s matching algorithm, but it takes matters out of your hands. With Christian Café, you can get as specific as you choose, and you can read those same answers on other profiles.
::Ease of Use
Aesthetically, Christian Café just isn’t a lovely site. A lot of browns and text links just make it difficult to land the eye. eHarmony on the other hand is simplistic and gives users a pleasant site to come to, as well as one that is updated, improved, and modernized regularly. While you may wonder why aesthetics come up in a discussion on ease of use, the site design plays a large role in how easy to use a website can be. Christian Café is a text-heavy site, and it distracts the user. Additionally, some aspects of the site require you to go back to the old version of Christian Cafe before their recent re-brand and update. It can be clunky and confusing.
::Numbers
eHarmony is one of the largest, if not the largest online dating site in existence. It’s also one of the oldest, if not the oldest online dating sites in existence. Age and size of a site mean a lot when you’re trying to find the love of your life. You want as large of a pool of profiles as possible. It stands to reason then, in the battle between eHarmony vs. Christian Café, the latter just can’t compete with the sheer numbers of eHarmony.
While Christian Café currently has a partnership with Boundless/Focus on the Family, that alliance still hasn’t helped to improve their membership numbers to eHarmony or Match.com levels. Even within a large, metro area like Dallas or Houston, a search won’t net you much more than a few hundred people. If you live anywhere outside of a major city, you probably should be prepared for a long-distance relationship.
::Price
Christian Café runs around $35/month at the most, and it can be less depending on the type of contract you choose. eHarmony maxes out around $60/month if you don’t choose an extended contract. As is the case with nearly all online dating sites, if you commit to a longer membership, you’ll get a better price per month.
eHarmony vs. Christian Café :: The Winner
As much as we want to support Christian Café because it is a site owned by Christians and for Christians, we can’t ignore the fact that it just can’t quite compete with eHarmony in many areas, but especially in the numbers department. At the end of the day, we’re looking for people to date or possibly marry. It’s a numbers game and the more options you have, the better.
