Use these wedding quotes craft pretty wedding signs, or borrow some of history’s most beautiful love quotes to express your feelings on your special day.

Expressing profound feelings of love for another person is not easy, especially if writing is not your strong suit. Instead of driving yourself crazy trying to come up with the perfect words, borrow from someone else instead. Wedding quotes can be a great way not only to show your love for your soon-to-be spouse, but also to add an extra dimension to wedding decorations. Here are a few ways that you can incorporate wedding quotes into your own festivities.

Short Wedding Quotes

These short and sweet sayings would fit perfectly on the edge of a table runner, personalised napkins, or on a banner across the entrance of your wedding hall. Wedding quotes don’t have to be long to be meaningful—it’s the sentiment behind them that counts.

When creating a banner with your favorite wedding quote, keep the word count to 3-5 words per line (depending on the width of the entranceway and length of the words). If you wish to use a longer wedding quote, create two banners and stack them on top of each other (each of the quotes below is 5-10 words long).

“Who, being loved, is poor?” – Oscar Wilde

“Love is all you need.” – The Beatles

“True love stories never have endings.” – Richard Bach

“Ever thine, ever mine, ever ours.” – Ludwig von Beethoven

“Are we not like two volumes of one book?” – Marceline Desbordes-Valmore

“At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.” – Plato

“My creed is love, and you are its only tenet.” – John Keats

“Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be” – Robert Browning

Medium Length Wedding Quotes

One popular way to incorporate a wedding quote into your celebration is to write it out on a chalkboard. Not only is this a sweet way to express your feelings, but also it’s an inexpensive way to decorate. Enlist the help of a friend who has beautiful handwriting, and have her write out one of these medium-length wedding quotes on a chalkboard. Place the chalkboard on the gift table, next to the guestbook, or even on the head table. It’s certain to add a rustic romanticism to your festivities.

“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” – Emily Bronte

“If I had a flower for every time I thought of you… I could walk through my garden forever.” – Alfred Lord Tennyson

“If you live to be 100, then I hope to be 100 minus one day, so that I never have to live without you.” – Ernest H. Shepard

“Love doesn’t just sit there, like a stone; it has to be made, like bread, and remade all the time, made new.” – Ursula K. Le Guin

“Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.” – Antoine de Saint Exupéry

“We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.” – Robert Fulghum

Short Poems as Wedding Quotes

If you’re creating a particularly large banner (as a backdrop to the altar or head table, for example), you might want to use a short poem, or a portion of a poem, as your wedding quote. William Shakespeare’s plays and sonnets are a great place to start, but don’t limit yourself to only the most well known literary figures. If you’re feeling particularly bold, you might even write your own poem!

“My bounty is as boundless as the sea,

My love as deep; the more I give to thee,

The more I have, for both are infinite.” – William Shakespeare

“Let us sea-discoverers to new worlds have gone,

Let maps to others, worlds on worlds have shown,

Let us possess one world, each hath one, and is one.” – John Donne

“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…” – Elizabeth Barrett Browning

“…I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.

I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;

so I love you because I know no other way…” – Pablo Neruda

“For ‘twas not into my ear you whispered,

But into my heart,

‘Twas not my lips you kissed,

But my soul.” – Judy Garland

Wedding Quotes from Movies and Books

Just because your favourite wedding quote wasn’t penned by a famous author doesn’t mean you can’t use it in your wedding! Contemporary books and movies have produced some of the most iconic love quotes of our time, and are certainly worth incorporating into your wedding.

If you’re unsure where to place one of these wedding quotes, try using it as a fun game for your guests. Write out your favorite quotes (without citing the source) and place one in the centerpiece of each table. Have each guest write down which book or movie they think the quote is from, and whoever guesses correctly wins the centerpiece (if multiple guests guess correctly, simply draw a name from a hat to determine the winner). Not sure where to start? These wedding quotes are sweet, romantic, and fairly well known.

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” – When Harry Met Sally

“We are joined by the bonds of love. And you cannot track that, not with a thousand bloodhounds, and you cannot break it, not with a thousand swords.” – The Princess Bride

“After all this time?”

“Always.”- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

“I love you. You…you complete me.”

“You had me at ‘hello.’” – Jerry Maguire

“Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she had to walk into mine.” – Casablanca

“I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.” – Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
