Khan Academy offers free teaching resources on a variety of topics. They started out primarily in math and science, and are now expanding into many other subject areas. This is great news for those of us teaching in other topics, such as social studies.
Every time I head over to the Khan Academy site, it seems like they’ve added new material. Currently, the most relevant materials that they offer for social studies teachers are lessons on US History and World History.
To learn more in-depth about these nifty resources, take a look at this training session, Getting Started with Khan Academy. Khan Academy provides a variety of free online, pre-made instructional materials that you can assign to students to do at home, leaving you more time for labs and group work in class. Learn how to sign up for a Khan Academy account, how to sign students up for Khan Academy, how to monitor student progress, and how to understand student progress reports generated within Khan Academy.
