Picture the following landscape: stunning beaches, breath-taking sunset moments and limitless sea…This has been my every day view last week and I can’t wait for you to get involved. Let me show you why Croatia is always a good idea and why I’m feeling blessed to have such vacations! Come, travel with us!
This’s been my fourth time in Croatia and I just cannot get bored of it. With its truly divine coastline, intact nature (national parks) and beautifully preserved centuries-old harbour towns, it offers a less commercial take on the holidays. Whenever I’m here I spend most of my time at the beach; swimming, sunbathing and doing fun activities. Speaking of experience the best Croatian islands for beaches are on the Krk, Rab and Brac islands, which can be reached via bridges or ferries. My biggest concern when it comes to beaches is that they need to be most of all clean and in Croatia they do master keeping their beaches so. Another issue is to be able to rest in the shade, which their palms, the surrounding of pine trees and stylish seaside resorts make possible. Also it’s good to have all the fun facilities; I usually can’t say no to an hour of jet skiing around or going up in the air with a parachute. For the wild-at-hearts one can as well jump from rocks, hike, dive and try out all the crazy-speedy water facilities. In the evenings you’ll get to choose among the finest dishes and stretch your legs, while chilling by the water with a glass of fine wine and the sunset. Let me share with you a few of my insights I gathered during my visits below!
Beaches…
Krk (Vela Plaza in Baska): I have the most vivid and freshest memories from the Krk island from last week. Among others we’ve visited the beach called Vela Plaza in Baska that it almost a 2km ling coastline of fine pebbles and sand. While the coast has exciting sport facilities for both the kids and the older ones, the Baska promenade has intimate bars and hearty little souvenir shops filled with local traits.
Rab (notably around Lopar): My nicest childhood memories recall the Mediterranean atmosphere of the Rab island. It’s perfect for those of you who loves sandy beaches. The sea is very shallow, you can walk about 200 meters and the water is only reaching your knee. Renting a boat or a yacht and cruise around the nearest islands is a must!
Brac (with the star being the stunning Zlatni Rat beach in Bol): Probably the prettiest islands among all is called Brac with its stunning beach called Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) in Bol. The whole island smells like fresh herbs and salty sea where you can also find hidden caves and beaches but also markets, galleries, antique shops, excellent restaurants and a lively nightlife.
What to see…
Split: I personally prefer Split over Zadar when one would like to combine sightseeing, shopping and some beach experience. Split old town, centring on Diocletian’s Palace, built by the retired Roman Emperor is offering a stunning place to walk around and get lost in the cute little alleys and stylish bars and shops.
Plitvice: If I’d have to define the colour ‘azure blue’ I’d say go and check the lakes in Plitvice. The beauty of the National Park lies in its sixteen lakes, a series of waterfalls, and set in deep woodland populated by deers, bears and rare bird species. The Park prints out maps for a number of different walks with various lengths. You can chose between walking or hiking!
The accommodation…
Since I’m usually traveling with my family of friends a cool option and a sensible one for bigger crowds, is renting a villa. Some of Croatia’s most beautiful properties are up in inland Istria, where many old stone farmhouses have been carefully restored and tastefully furnished to make comfortable holiday homes set in gardens with swimming pools and outdoor furniture. These villas are usually fully equipped and have good internet connection, air condition of course, balconies and spacious rooms.
The cuisine…
The coastal regions of Istria and Dalmatia are famed for their fresh and delicious Adriatic seafood. You’ll find a host of dishes based on shellfish, calamari, herbs and veggies.
With its warm Mediterranean climate, the coastal region also enjoys an ever-changing array of fresh seasonal products such as fig, olives, tomatoes, peppers, peaches available in abundance through summer. Not only the beers but also the Croatian wines taste surprisingly good. Though they are not too well-known abroad – mainly because they are mostly consumed and sold by the domestic market – it’s something worth trying.
