Dong In Optical Co., Ltd has had a few contracts in the worldwide machine gun optics market, and not so very long ago introduced a commercial line of red dots for civilian use. I bought based on the specs, which are stated Mil-Std 810G durability tested. They claim the RV2 case can withstand two tons of pressure, operating temps of -25 to 160 F, and is submersible to 30 feet. Primary Arms sells both the DI Optical RV1 and the RV2 for $200 and $250 respectively, but recently had the RV2 on sale for 20% off so I figured I would evaluate it.

DI Optical USA

The RV1 has only 4 night vision (NV) settings whereas the RV2 has 7 NV settings. Never know when the price of NV goggles will plummet. Another difference is the RV1 is stated as splash resistant rather than water resistant.

The RV2 has a 2 MOA dot with 7 settings for daylight and 7 settings for NV. There are three water-resistant, pressure-sensitive, intensity adjustments, "+" "-" and "NV". The dimmest is very tiny but still visible, whereas the brightest is like looking into the sun. For normal light conditions, 3 to 4 looks like it will work. It had a Duracell AA installed when it arrived, but the voltage had dropped to 1.4v so I installed a Lithium AA (1.7x volts).

It comes with a screw down mount and two flip up lens caps. The lens caps are polymer and come unattached; the fit is so tight I am not sure if they will ever go on...and if they do I doubt they will come off. The web site photos show retainer strings for the elevation/windage waterproof caps but there are none. There are also no graphics anywhere, and the finish is a matte black. Nice quality packing box which says DI Optical USA, Made in Korea, on the outside of the box.

Not a whole lot of reviews floating around, some feedback takes a whack at it as an obvious Aimpoint Pro wannabe because of its similar looks. Comes with a two year limited warranty.

DI Optical's web page has separate entries for both military and commercial optics. The RV2 corresponds to the military version T3S which has a few different specs but is otherwise very similar. The military version has a four hour shut off whereas the RV2 enters a "sleep" mode after thirty minutes and will wake up with its vibration response capability. Battery life is 1,500 hours for the T3S and 20,000 hours for the RV2. Less than half the hours Aimpoint Pro, but less than half the price.

Both have bodies machined from a 6061-T6 aircraft quality aluminum billet. Adjustment clicks are 2.8 cm at 100 meters.
