Those of you who are looking at Biometric Safes instead of using combination systems need to beware of a simple fact.

As we get older (Past 55) there is a warning in the fine print of almost every sensor manufacturer that "It is problematic for the sensor to properly discern the prints of older people due to the decreased thickness and definition of the skin on the hands. It is also problematic for the sensor to work reliably with fingers that have been damaged or worn due to extended physical labor". This is the warning from the manufacturer of the SENSORS for these systems and not (usually) found in the documentation of the Safe itself. (I assume that they want to hide from the fact that this is the situation and can say "But we didn't have that problem with the parts WE built).

My Gunbox (with biometric) is useless on any finger. Fortunately, I have the 4 or so RFID sensors (and have added additional ones and verified their operation) on the unit. It is very secure. EXTREMELY Secure. I cannot get into it without the RFID key.

Others from other manufacturers exhibit the same behavior. I finally decided to stick with the 4 button combination units I already have, and ordered a RFID / Combination Hornaday safe for my 229 and 239 pistols.

If you work with your hands, or if you are over 55, beware that these systems will start to fail increasingly as they don't recognize you.

I think the sensors are all Liberal.
