First winter storm of the season is on tap. Our protective ridge of high pressure has been shoved east by a strong low pressure system moving down from the Spokane area into the PACNW. From there it will kick into our area as early as tonight for Mono County. Then it pushes southeast down into Inyo County on Wednesday. Now this system does not have abundant moisture, but the dynamics are such that decent precipitation could happen on spots. Besides the Sierra, the White Mountains look to pick up light snow down to about 6,000 feet on Wednesday. The Tahoe Basin, Tioga Pass, Sonora Pass could see 2 – 5 inches of new snow. The first Winter Advisory of the season has been issued for the Southern Sierra from 5 am Wednesday to 5 am Thursday. Some lingering activity on Thursday morning as that low quickly pulls away towards the Rockies. Drier and a little warmer Friday through the weekend from a weak ridging building in.

Town of Mammoth Lakes:

Wednesday: 70% chance of snow showers. Highs 39 / Lows 25. Winds W 5 – 15 mph.
Mono County:
Today: Becoming mostly cloudy. Highs 59 – 69 / Lows 27 – 37. Winds W 10 – 15 mph.
Wednesday: Snow and rain likely. Highs 42 – 52 / Lows 19 – 29. Winds NW 5 – 15 mph.
