Korean Film Festival 2015 - Featured Movies, Screening Schedules and Venues
The Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC), Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and SM Cinemas announced the seven films (with English subtitles) featured in this year’s Korean Film Festival with the theme “Strings of Affinity.”
These are:
The Thieves
“The Thieves” earned $78.61 million and sold 12.98 million tickets in South Korea. It stars Kim Yoon-seok, Lee Jung-jae, Kim Hye-soo, Jun Ji-hyun and Kim Soo Hyun. It is about a group of thieves commissioned to steal the diamond “Tear of the Sun.”
Miss Granny
Grossing $52.63 million at the Korean box office, “Miss Granny” is about 74-year-old widow Oh Mal-Soon (played by award-winning actress Na Moon-hee) who is transformed back to her 20-year-old self after having her photo taken at a mysterious photo studio. She renames herself Oh Doo-ri (played by Shim Eun-kyung) and enjoys her youth by pursuing her dream to become a singer together with her grandson Ji-ha (played by B1A4’s Jinyoung), who doesn’t realize that she’s his grandmother.
Cold Eyes
Han Hyo-Joo plays the role of Yoon-Joo in “Cold Eyes,” which earned $33 million in South Korea. As a new member of the Korean Police Force’s Special Crimes Unit, she is assigned under the team of Detective Hwang Sang-jun (played by Sol Kyung-Gu) and together, they track down James (Jung Woo-sung), leader of a bank robbing criminal group.
Front Line
“Front Line,” set in the 1950s, is about Kang Eun-pyo (Shin Ha-kyun) who is sent to join the Alligator Company at Aerok Hill and is surprised to see his old friend Kim Soo-hyuk (Go Soo) there, as an officer of the company.
Hope
“Hope” is based on a true story about a family coping up with a daughter having been sexually assaulted and nearly beaten to death by a drunken old stranger.
Marriage Blue
“Marriage Blue,” which stars Kim Kang-woo, Kim Hyo-jin, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Yeon-hee, 2PM’s Taecyeon, Ma Dong-seok, Guzal Tursunova, Lee Hee-joon and Go Joon-hee, is a romantic comedy about four engaged couples who are having second thoughts about marriage.
Duresori: Voice of the East
Shot in documentary style, “Duresori: Voice of the East” is based on a true story about Seul-Gi and Ah-Reum, third year students at the National High School of the Traditional Arts. In their final summer, they are forced to join the school choir as a requirement. A conflict arises between instructor Ms. Ham, who majored in western music, and her students, who major in traditional Korean music.
