Here’s some interesting news for those looking forward to the King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition. In a post in the Steam community forums, SNK Playmore community manager Y2 has stated that the upcoming port will be based on King of Fighters XIII Climax – the current arcade build of the game that featured a few additional balance changes past those made in the console version. Specifically, Y2 stated that the game will feature the gameplay of Climax wrapped under the UI and menus of the Xbox 360 version.

KOFXIII S.E will be a fusion of KOFXIII CLIMAX and the Xbox360 version of KOFXIII. The gameplay of KOFXIII S.E. is based on KOFXIII CLIMAX. The UI, menus, and configs are based on the Xbox 360 version of KOFXIII

In addition to this, Y2 also mentioned that the Steam Edition will features options that will allow players on lower end PCs to adjust the game, with options to turn off dynamic backgrounds as well as the ability to choose between fixed and variable framerate for offline play. Online play, however, will always be set to a fixed framerate.

As for the upcoming closed beta, Y2 mentioned it will only include online play and that they will be using this to collect feedback on the new netcode for the game.
