Friends of Shorter University may see familiar faces as they drive along Interstates 75 and 85 in Atlanta. Bradley Moon, a Conyers resident, and Toccoa resident Millie Payne are featured on a series of billboards advertising Shorter University.

The students were selected for the billboards as outstanding representatives of Shorter’s student body, according to Dawn Tolbert, associate vice president for university communications at Shorter. “Bradley and Millie are outstanding students both inside the classroom and out, and both are involved as campus leaders. We are proud of their accomplishments and happy to have them serving as the face of Shorter for our outdoor advertising campaign,” Tolbert said.

Moon, a sport management major who graduated on May 2, is the son of Fred and Cheryl Moon, of Conyers. After graduating, he will return to Shorter to enroll in the Master of Business Administration program.

“I knew I wanted to find a college where I could be well educated and be successful, and the Lord opened up Shorter.” Moon said. “I have always wanted to be a student-athlete. I wanted to be involved on campus and to be a role model for other athletes to see that they can be involved on campus.”

A two-sport athlete playing football and running track, Moon has lived up to his goal of serving as a role model. Despite demanding classroom and practice schedules, he has served as a student ambassador leading campus tours for the university’s Office of Admissions, as a peer mentor assisting with Freshman Seminar courses, as a member of the Athletic Department’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee and Gender Equity Committee, and as president of the newly formed Student Advisory Board for Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter College of Business.

“I always want to find ways to impact others,” Moon said. “It’s about serving. Everyone has a role or a ministry, and we are impacting others and showing the love of Christ in all we do. At Shorter, I have been surrounded by great students, faculty, and staff who have helped me grow. The Lord placed a lot of people in my path to help me, and I am proud to be able to give back.”

Payne, a rising junior psychology major, is the daughter of Nan Payne, of Toccoa.

A self-proclaimed “people person,” Payne chose her major because of her desire to learn about people and apply those lessons to daily life. As a member of the Shorter Honors Academy, the university’s honors program, Payne is meeting an increased level of requirements in her coursework as well as participating in an honors colloquia class each semester.

“I knew Shorter was the right place for me when I walked on campus,” Payne said. “I love the small, friendly environment and how close you can be to your professors. Shorter offers a place to grow and has opened many opportunities for me.”

Payne has taken advantage of the opportunities presented to her. She serves as a student worker in the Office of Admissions and is a cheerleader at Shorter, taking part in the football, basketball, and competitive cheerleading seasons. She also serves as third vice president of the Zeta Tau Alpha chapter at Shorter, heading up the areas of membership and recruitment. The Spanish minor plans to study abroad in Spain this summer and recently finished as second runner-up in the 2014 Miss Shorter Pageant.

“Shorter is such a loving environment with a homey feel,” Payne said. “I have followed God’s will here and found people who would push me and encourage me. It is really interesting for me (in my role in the Admissions office) to help other students come to Shorter.”
