Sourced from The Hysterectomy Association: Hysterectomy Association - Hysterectomy Association - hysterectomy, menopause and hormone replacement therapy (hrt) information and support for women.
It’s been a few months since the last newsletter went out, in fact it was in September, and a lot has happened since then. Not only have we have Christmas, but we announced the winners of Hysteria 2014; more about that later though.
First of all, I’d like to welcome all our brand new readers. I hope you’ll find the information we have on the hysterectomy association website interesting and helpful.
Secondly, we’re planning some major changes to the way we produce information and the type of information we share. But we can’t do it without your help. Can you email me with details of the information you tried to find but couldn’t? It may be that it’s there already but it’s not easily accessible; or it may be that we just don’t have that sort of information on the site. Whatever the question I’d really like to know so we can start putting together exactly what women need. Please send your emails to linda@hysterectomy-association.org.uk
Now, for the first time ever, May 2015 will be International Hysterectomy Awareness Month. This is a major project that we’re undertaking in conjunction with HysterSisters and String of Pearls in the United States. There will be a single focus website for the initiative which we are all contributing to and we’re looking for your help to spread the word. Over the coming months there will be articles here on our site, articles on the awareness site as well as short, sharp facts you can tweet and share amongst your social media buddies. It’s time to bring hysterectomy out from the dark recesses of health systems the world over and into the light of awareness.
Hysteria 2014 update
We had three very worthy winners for each of our categories in the Hysteria Writing Competition. Well done to Tracey Glasspool, Helen Chambers and Polly Hall. Click on their names and you’ll find an interview with each of them on my personal blog ‘Woman on the Edge of Reality’. This year’s competition opens on 1st April.
Other News Items
Over the last few months a couple of things have stood out in the news. First was the warning that a standard treatment for uterine fibroids that involves morcellation now comes with a warning:Minimally invasive uterine and fibroid morcellation warning and, as a result, NICE has withdrawn its guidance to health practitioners.
Also great strides have been made in transplant surgery with the first live births taking place in women who have had a womb transplant: Welcoming a new era in transplant surgery – the womb transplant. Of course, this is still very early days and the chances of this being more broadly available in the UK are minimal at present. But, it’s a start.

What’s Happening on the Social Web?
Our Facebook page has been active again on the topic of whether women felt they went backwards in recovery before going forwards and getting better? Why not read the whole thing; you don’t need a Facebook account to see it, but if you do then you can always wade in with your own experiences too.
