Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre will be a creative hub of activity on Sunday 30 August hosting an exciting day of FREE family fun and entertainment to celebrate the current exhibition in the Regional Gallery, Labours of Love: Australian Quilts 1845 -2015.

Join us for a full day of free family activities, quilt making demonstrations, face painting, music, and film along with a range of delicious treats served up by Hazelhurst Café.

The Quilt Fest will kick off at 10am with quilt making demonstrations in the Community Gallery and an open workshop by Cathy Jack Coupland, one of Sydney’s leading fibre artists. Feeling inspired? Join the quilting bee in the Regional Gallery foyer and make a rosette or two and contribute to the Yoyo quilt in the Foyer.

You can also shop the Wild Ones Market, an indoor and outdoor boutique art & design market with over 30 stalls hosting an eclectic array of textiles, homewares, jewellery, graphic design, illustration, photography, fashion accessories, art, garden wares and artisan edibles, both local and from further afield. There will also be specialist quilting stalls where you can stock up on all your quilting supplies.

You can take in a guided tour of the exhibition in the Regional Gallery, browse the Gallery Shop, enjoy the free screening of How to make an American Quilt or simply relax in the deck chairs on the lawn enjoying the grooves of DJ Chris Dolman.

For the ultimate art meets science experience, visit the Light and Colour Activity Station in Hazelhurst cottage and try Drawing with Light.

Celebrating National Science Week and the Year of Light, ANSTO scientists will be shining a light on light with a number of hands on activities including creating your own glow worm and ‘art in the dark’ light painting where a photographer will capture you writing your name using a handheld LED light source. Photos will be printed instantly for you to take home.

There will be plenty to look at and listen to all around. The Art Centre studios will be a hive of activity, along with free face painting for the kids.

From 10am – 5pm there will be something for everyone – from the serious art lover to the family looking for a great day out. Browse the art gallery and the market, join a guided tour, make some art, grab a bite to eat, enjoy a coffee or just sit back and relax in the gardens.
