I am excited to announce that one of Disney’s most beloved animated movies, The Little Mermaid, is available TODAY (October 1, 2013) on Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack.

My husband and I both collected Disney movies, even long before we met (he’s a big kid at heart too). Neither of us were able to get The Little Mermaid on VHS (remember those?). It’s a shame too because it was a favorite of our daughter’s when she was a little girl.

I am THRILLED that we now not only have the movie on DVD, but also on Blu-ray and Digital Copy! You can own this special combo pack too. It’s available TODAY where ever movies are sold.

In case you are unfamiliar with the store of The Little Mermaid, let me give you a brief synopsis.

Under the sea lives a community of Merpeople (mermaids). They are ruled by King Titan.

King Triton has seven daughters, the youngest is Ariel. Ariel is a dreamer and doesn’t always do what she is told to do. She dreams of one day visiting the surface and seeing all the world has to offer, not just under the sea.

One day Ariel notices a ship in the horizon. She gets closer to get a better look. That is when she first lays eyes on Eric. Eric is a handsome young prince.

Out of no where a storm appears and causes the people on board to get tossed around. They try to get to safety, but Eric gets back on board the ship to save his dog. In doing so he almost loses his life. Thankfully Ariel was around to rescue him and bring him to shore.

When Eric awakens on the shore he opens his eyes to briefly see the beautiful Ariel and hear her sing to him. When Ariel hears someone coming she leaves and returns to the sea.

Ariel is totally smitten with the handsome prince. Eric feels the same too and tries in vain to find the mystery woman who saved his life.

When King Triton finds out he becomes angry and destroys some of Ariel’s favorite possessions. Ariel is also angry and does something she knows she should never go – go and see the evil witch, Ursula. Ursula makes a deal with Ariel. She will give her legs so she can go to the surface in exchange for her voice. If she can get kissed by her true love within three days she can have her voice back and be able to keep her legs. Ursula had no intention of letting that happen.

Will Ariel get her true love’s kiss and receive her voice back? Will her decision to become human put herself, and those she loves, in jeopardy? Why is Ursula out to destroy King Triton? To find out you need to pick up a copy of The Little Mermaid.

Here are some special clips from the movie.

One of the things we love about this film is the music. Ever since my family watched the movie the other day the song “Part of This World” has been playing in my head over and over again.

This film was originally released in 1989. Animation has come a long way since then. When this film was made animation was still very much two dimensional. It didn’t look as realistic as today’s films. Even my son commented on how “flat” the characters and scnery looked. While that is true, the classic story is still able to come to live in this film. The characters are all enjoyable and the story and music are classics that will be enjoyed by many generations to come.
