The Whitsunday Islands are a collection of 74 breathtaking islands off the tropical coast of Queensland. Silky white sand, pristine water, secluded beaches and the Great Barrier Reef are just a few of the reasons why the Whitsundays are a popular tourist destination. Most of the islands are uninhabited so they remain virtually untouched and the best way to see the islands is to charter a boat and get out exploring. Of course, if you prefer to stay on dry land then there are a huge range of accommodation options, ranging from budget and family-friendly resorts right through to five-star, kid-free luxury resorts. So, here are some of the best islands to visit in the Whitsundays.

Hamilton Island is the largest inhabited island of the Whitsundays and is the perfect place for a family holiday. On the island, there are six types of accommodation including self-catering bungalows and apartments, hotels, holiday homes and even luxury resorts that don’t allow kids. There are a vast number of activities including jet boating, go-karting, ten pin bowling, mini golf, wake boarding and tubing, just to name a few. On the island you’ll also find the Clownfish Club – a childcare centre that cares for children aged 6 weeks to 14 years, so if you’re in desperate need of some pampering, you can drop the kids off for some fun at kids club.  Kids also stay and eat free at selected accommodation and restaurants on the island.

On a smaller scale, Daydream Island is only one kilometre in length by five hundred metres wide and is one of the closest islands to the coast. Covering the entire island is the Daydream Island Resort and Spa with 296 rooms and suites, ranging from rainforest garden view rooms to luxurious panoramic ocean view suites. There are a range of complimentary activities at the resort such as beach volleyball, sailing, water polo, bocce and coconut bowls but if you’re looking for something a bit more action packed, try your hand at jet skiing, scuba diving or parasailing. Located at the northern end of Daydream Island is the Rejuvenation Spa – a world class, award winning facility which has 16 treatment rooms, private relaxation areas and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.  An unforgettable place for families and couples.

If you’re looking for luxury, look no further than the One & Only Hayman Island which offers elegant resort living in suites, villas and penthouses in three separate wings for families or couples. For the ultimate luxury, consider the three bedroom Owner’s Penthouse which features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, wrap around balcony with sweeping views of Hayman Beach, complimentary in-room bar and a personalised butler service. There are a range of chic restaurants at the resort which offer cuisines from all around the world and the sanctuary of the spa is not to be missed. They offer treatments and massages in tranquil settings such as floating on the sea or underneath the rainforest canopy. If you want to try something new, the resort provides lessons in tennis, golf, snorkelling and photography, otherwise sit back and relax in the pristine surroundings.

Long Island is home to one of the few child-free and technology-free resorts in the Whitsunday Islands. Paradise Bay Island Resort on the southern end of the Island caters for a maximum of 18 guests at any one time and allows no children, no mobile phones and no internet making it the ideal sanctuary to get away from it all. Accommodation consists of waterfront bungalows, just metres from the ocean with huge front windows for unsurpassed views of the ocean. Picture yourself lounging in a hammock with a good book, getting pampered at the spa, sipping on cocktails in the infinity pool and feasting on evening canapés and gourmet meals – sounds wonderful doesn’t it?
