A couple of weeks ago, Pure Body Studio reached out to me asking if I was interested in taking a Pilates class and doing a write up on the studio…No brainer…I would love to! I have taken multiple Pilates classes here in Houston and it is definitely a great class to strengthen and stretch the body. It is also a nice switch up from running, strength training, and yoga.

I was able to bring a friend (lucky for her she gets to be the one in the video…HA), so we ventured over to the studio on a Friday afternoon for a 75 minute private session. The studio is spotless; welcoming; bright; and well set up. Heather was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and obviously very passionate about what she does. We had a great class that strengthened and stretched what felt like every muscle in our body. There were definitely a few times when I realized that my core was not as strong as I thought it was…full belly shake was happening. What I really enjoy about Pilates is how it targets my hips (oh running) and core, which are obviously beneficial to maintaining for good posture, daily activities, and my training.

Pure Body Studio is a boutique Pilates studio specializing in true Method Pilates.  We teach small group classes and individual sessions.  Our teaching staff has the highest education levels possible and are required to complete continuing education each quarter.  The studio is calm and inviting as well as designed to allow interaction with the student and teacher in group classes as well as private sessions.  We teach primarily Method Pilates which by design will increase clients coordination, concentration, rhythm, core strength, use of breath, efficient use of the body, balance, centering and more.  Clients feel more energized, less pain and an overall sense of balance after doing Method Pilates with us at Pure.

The studio was opened in August of 2010 and is one of the only real Pilates studios in Houston.  Pure has 70 classes per week, a select teacher training program and events and workshops spanning functional movement and TRX suspension training all the way to Bikini ‘Bootcamp’ which is a fun way to move your body while using the safety of the Pilates Method.

I asked Heather a few questions, so that you could get to know her a little bit better, instead of just what you read from her bio:

What is your favorite workout?  My favorite workout is Pilates.  I started as a client, became certified to teach and then opened my own studio.  There is no other form of exercise so comprehensive that gifts so much – I feel energized and ready for anything after my Pilates workout.

How do you balance running a business…being a Wife/Mother…living a healthy lifestyle?  Balance is hard but I’ve found that scheduling everything works best for me.  If I have “family time” on my daily schedule then I treat it just like a meeting and show up on time, ready and (mentally) prepared to unplug and get present for my boys and husband.  I schedule everything from time with friends to walking the dogs.

What is your favorite way to treat yourself?  Time with my closest friends is always the biggest soul filler for me outside of my day-to-day activities.  If I’m alone, a good pedicure fills me right up too.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?  Helping people who are in chronic pain.  Hands down.  When I meet someone who’s been in pain for a month, year or even a lifetime and then we work on their alignment and balance to get them out of pain, when they start to feel better I am rewarded in a way I can not really describe.  It fills me up with love and light and I feel honored to have met them and to get to work with them.  For some it’s instant and for others it can take a couple of weeks but so far, working one on one, my clients have consistently gone from a pain level of 8-10 when we meet, to 0-1 after working together.  It’s amazing.
