This fun cloud art I made with my son was so simple and easy.  It was inspired by the book Little Cloud (affiliate link) by one of our favorite authors, Eric Carle.  It’s about all the different shapes we can see when we look at clouds and use our imaginations.

Instead of using the usual paint brush, we opted for painting with cotton balls!  It was the perfect tool for creating this fun cloud-like texture.

What You’ll Need:

Blue Paper

White Paint

Cotton Balls

Cloud Template (below)

I printed out a quick cloud art template and cut each of the three clouds out.

I taped it onto blue paper (for the sky) and let my son gently dip his cotton ball into white paint.  Then, he dabbed the cotton balls all over the open blue space under the template.

When he felt his artwork was complete, we took the top sheet off and admired his white fluffy clouds!

If you’d like to use our easy cloud template you can download it by clicking here.  You could also use a cloud shaped cookie cutter or just free-hand draw it!

After you’re done with this Eric Carle inspired art, try some of these crafts from The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
