2013-09-06

It's September 6th, and even though it's still quite warm where I live, it's time to talk about what I consider to be FALL STYLE STAPLES.

Yep.  It's time.

Somebody just needs to let the weather know.

Some things highlighted today are items that I actually own, and some are on my wish list for fall.  But ALL items shown are staples that will serve you well in your closet.

I even had Andrea create a cute graphic for the occasion!  Thanks Andrea!

(And if you want to, you can right click, save the checklist to your computer, and print it off!)

Now, I'm guessing that many of you can already check off several things on the above list!  If you can, then just see what you are lacking and consider adding those items to your closet!  If you don't have any of them, prioritize what is important to you, and maybe just focus on a couple of areas.

 ~~A GOOD FITTING PAIR OF JEANS THAT YOU LOVE~~

Every girl needs AT LEAST one great pair of jeans that she loves and that make her feel great!
 Whatever the brand, whatever the price point, you need them!

You ladies know I can't say enough about the Vigoss options (I LOVE them AND they are well-priced.)  I have 3 pair myself.
I have the clean cuffed pair HERE, and I think they just might be (along with the distressed pair) my favorite pair of jeans I've ever owned.

(I wear a 27 in the distressed cuffed and the boot cut, but I took a 28 in these.)

I also have bootcut pair HERE .  The pockets look just like Hudsons to me

(and the jenas are like 1/3 of the price)!

My 3rd pair is the distressed cuffed pair that is basically sold out.

 Click HERE for a similar pair to my distressed pair (40% off) or HERE (great reviews)!

I haven't tried on every pair of Vigoss jeans, but I've tried on about 7 of them, and I loved each pair!

They also have a super cute pair in plus size HERE!  And they are now 50% off!

And let's not forget the AWESOME skinny jeans I found!

They are Kut from the Kloth (the same maker of our denim jacket),and they are GREATNESS!

They look almost black, but they are not.  They are just a very very dark denim.

THESE JEANS will be perfect with MY NEW COGNAC BOOTS!

They are super tight...almost more like a legging than a jean...and they have lots of stretch in them.

For size reference, I got the 4.

I won't be tucking shirts in with these babies, but they will look FANTASTIC

with long shirts.  (Especially the MUST HAVE shirt.)  They are  VERY flattering.

You will be seeing these a lot in my outfit recreations!
Click HERE for the jeans.
They are 60% off right now, making them only $31,
but there are only 4 sizes left (0, 4, 6, and 8)!
These are going to sell out fast so you better hurry!

~~~~~ COGNAC BOOTS ~~~~~
 If I had to only have 1 pair of boots in my closet, it would be a pair of tall cognac boots.
I think a cognac colored boot is the most versatile boot you can own this season.  They go great with your standard blue jeans, and they look awesome with black and grey also.  They add a nice contrast to almost every outfit and just look sharp!
You know that I bought these cognac wedge boots that I'm totally obsessed with.
I LOVE them.
The wedge gives the height I love (without the dressy factor that an actual heel brings).
I also really like the details on the back of these with the straps and buttons.
The very first day the weather dips below 70 degrees, these babies will be on my feet.
Click HERE for the boots.
 Here's a picture that a reader (Hi Rebecca!) sent me that I think
shows the boots really well.
I also found THESE boots.
If you want a cognac boot, but you don't want a wedge,
I THINK THIS IS YOUR BOOT PEOPLE!
I sent a pic to Erika, and she bought them last week! She says they are SO CUTE on!
Fyi:  the picture on the website looks like a standard brown, but in real-life they are cognac.
 THESE are a very popular boot and have 228 5 Star Reviews.
Or click HERE for a really unique pair that I'm LOVING that is under $100!
The cognac color is perfection and the design is so cool!I posted them on facebook last Saturday and they got lots of attention!
My friend Tammy even posted this:
I have had these boots for a little over a year and ABSOLUTELY LOVE them!!!! The leather gets more distressed over time making them look that much more FABULOUS!
So comfy and compliments galore!!!
And you just can't beat the price!!!!
~~~~~ A COMFY PAIR OF FLATS ~~~~~

As much as I adore a tall boot, I need flats in my closet.  I love throwing them on for an easy and casual look.  I added a pair of nude flats to my closet this year, and I wore the heck out of them.

Below is the collage I used to convince myself to buy the nude flats.
 Click HERE for MY patent nude flats (color is actually Bisque patent).

Other nude flats HERE (matte leather) and a great square toe pair from Lucky HERE.

The black version of my flat is now 33% off and going fast! Click HERE!

Don't have a pair of flats you love?

Well, it's time to remedy that!

~~~~~ SEVERAL GREAT BASIC SHIRTS~~~~~
Great basic solid color shirts are a necessity in every girl's closet.  They are great on their own with a plain or a patterned jean or pant, and they are perfect to layer under pieces.
 You know I'm going to INSIST that you add a MUST HAVE shirt to your closet.
I already own it in black and the dark red (the dark red is sold out),
but I REALLY want the white too.
Click HERE for the shirt.
Remember to order 1 size down!
I'm wearing an x-small.
And earlier this week, I talked about the MUST HAVE shirt's cousin.
~~ A LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET GREAT FOR LAYERING~~
Up until last year, I wasn't a jacket girl.  I was a cardigan girl. I still love a cardigan, but I've  found that a lightweight jacket is a great and necessary piece to have!
There is just something about a jacket that helps an outfit look more polished.
Whether it's a denim jacket, a military jacket, or a blazer, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!
I wore 2 different military jackets constantly last spring and fall.  I added the MUST HAVE denim jacket late this spring (and became a crazy person who wore it at least 3x per week), and I just recently purchased a black jacket (it's still sold out!  boo!).  I also pulled out my black blazer from the back of my closet and loved wearing it all fall and winter!
Below you will find lots of great options for lightweight jackets and blazers!
So sad to say this, but it looks like the MUST HAVE jacket is sold out EVERYWHERE.
It is however still available in 3 other colors:
stonewashed sold out, blue HERE, dark denim HERE (only 3 sizes left),
 grey HERE (60% off - only M available)
If you don't like a denim jacket, then I'm not your friend anymore.
Just kidding.
Kind of.
Maybe a military jacket is more your style for a lightweight jacket?!?
click HERE for the little girl's version / click HERE or the Free People version
I LOVE the ruffled detail on the back of these jackets.
SO FLIPPING CUTE!
This is another shot of my friend Cassie over at Hi Sugarplum in the little girl's version.
Two other options:
LEFT Click HERE / Right Click HERE.
(The necklace that I'm wearing is my Kimberly necklace, found HERE.)
Sadly, my new favorite jacket is completely sold out.
But I check the status everyday, and if it re-stocks, you will be the first to know!
3 other options:
 click HERE click HERE click HERE
Until 10:00 a.m. eastern on Friday, click HERE for a black collarless jacket at 60% off
during the LOFT flash sale.
I really REALLY like THIS one!
It's a fantastic price, and it's simple.
It's good to go for "simple" if you are wanting it to be a good standard and basic piece in your closet. The gathered waist is a nice feminine touch, and I love how the jacket is styled in this picture!
I wore my black blazer constantly last year, and I know I will be doing the same this year too.
I think this one is a great option.
It looks way more formal on the website, but it looked great with my jeans at the store.
(They didn't have my size in the store, so the one in the pic below is too small.)
Click HERE for the blazer.
~~~ANYTHING LEOPARD~~~
 My post on Wednesday was dedicated to my love of leopard and to the importance of you adding AT LEAST 1 piece to your closet.  Leopard is a neutral, and the sooner you start treating it that way, the sooner you will start to elevate outfits from "eh" to "awesome"!

My first choice for leopard right now is this pair of Sam Edelman flats.

In fact, if you want to knock out two things from your checklist (comfy flats and anything leopard), get these and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Click HERE for the shoe and read the FANTASTIC reviews.

Reviews say to order a 1/2 size up.

Here is just one of the reviews:

 So comfortable!
Most
flats rub my feet and hurt- the ankles, around the front, on the sides
of the foot. With that, I am very picky about my shoes and usually end
up spending a ton of money to get flats that don't hurt. I am amazed at
these flats- they were comfortable right out of the box, didn't require
any break in time, and felt good on my feet all day. I will definitely
be getting more of these in lots of fun colors!
Sam Edelman also just came out with a leopard flat HERE that is almost exactly
 like the above shoe, but the toe is more squared off.
I think this square toe makes the flat a bit dressier.

For a super casual look. there are these leopard burlap TOMS .

We all got so excited about these!  Something is wrong with us.

Bless Our Hearts.

(And I forgot to mention this yesterday, even though it says "true to size" I always order a 1/2 size to a full size down in TOMS.)

Click HERE for the leopard booties with near perfect reviews.

I think they would look great with the distressed jeans and the must have shirt!

They would instantly jazz up just about any outfit!

Click HERE for the Michael Kors moccasins that are now 50% off!

If you're not quite ready to take the plunge for leopard shoes, but still want to add just a bit of leopard to our wardrobe, some other options follow.

Affordable leopard scarf options HERE.
A great option from Macy's HERE with some coral splashed in! So pretty! And under $20!

Leopard belt options follow:

belt 1 HERE from Nordstrom / belt 2 HERE from Nordstrom/  belt 3 HERE from GAP

~~~A STATEMENT NECKLACE~~~
I've always worn a little bit of jewelry, but it wasn't until this year until that I  realized
the power of great accessories. I tend to gravitate towards longer necklaces (although I still love a short necklace too if the collar of the shirt calls for one).  Often times I like the outfit I have on, but once I style it appropriately with accessories, I LOVE it.
I don't think it's a secret that my Kimberly necklace is my favorite (and most worn) necklace in my closet.
KIMBERLY HERE
 I just got the Sanibel pendant a couple of weeks ago, and it's already climbed up the ranks to 2nd necklace in command.  One side has a faceted brown stone, and one side a smooth celedon green stone.  Both are gorgeous.
SANIBEL HERE
A great short necklace HERE that looks kinda vintage!
Link necklaces are big this fall, so click HERE for lots of options!
And just fyi, if you want to place an order through Stella and Dot
~~~A CARDIGAN~~~

And when I say "A" cardigan..I really mean LOTS of cardigans.  I don't think you can ever have too many, and I've collected LOTS over the years. Please don't ask me to define "lots".I love layering my clothes, and a cardigan is obviously a perfect layering piece.

Click HERE for this awesome long striped cardi that also comes in solid colors.

A solid color brown option (by the same maker as the one above) just went 40% off!

All sizes available now, but I expect it to sell out fast.

A ribbed and belted cardigan HERE.

A draped front cardigan HERE.

J Crew Factory options HERE.

TONS and TONS of great cardigan options from LOFT HERE.

Solid colors, stripes polka dots, lace details...something for everybody!

~~~~~A PAIR OF BOOTIES~~~~~
I have an entire post on booties coming up in a couple of weeks. However, even though we haven't really talked about them yet, I still thought they deserved to make
the FALL STYLE STAPLES checklist.
Until this year, I never even considered adding a bootie to my closet, but this year I HAD TO HAVE one. Over the last year they grew on me (well played fashion industry, well played), and now I love the look of them.
They are a little bit edgy, and I can't wait to wear them with my skinny jeans and cuffed jeans!
These are the pair I bought and I LOVE them.  The color is perfect, the heel height is just what I was looking for, and the buckles look cool.   Plus, they are affordable!
 Click HERE.
This is another great pair from BP!  These are under $100 too!
Click HERE and check out the near perfect reviews for this simple and clean boot.
(Comes in this color and a cognac option.)
Check out the Hinge Addison bootie HERE with a little bit of a country flair.
I am also totally loving the lace up bootie look!  I like the pair from TOMS HERE and
the Clark's pair HERE.
And here's a collage that I put together several weeks ago of even more options.
~~~~~A GREAT BAG~~~~~

A great bag that you love is a necessity. I hate changing purses, and don't do it very often, so I need to have a bag that I absolutely love since I will basically carry it every single day for an extended period of time.  Because of that, because of the everyday use, I think I can justify a higher price tag.

Check out THIS Michael Kors bag.

Brace yourself, it's not cheap.  It's a gorgeous color, and I think the shape is totally cool.

And go ahead and start drooling over this Dooney and Bourke.

It's STUNNING.

It's expensive, but it's stunning.
Click HERE for the bag.

Bag options under $100:

Peyton satchel HERE

(comes in cognac, black, and grey - can be carried over the shoulder or cross-body)

Steve Madden Talia satchel HERE (comes in 4 colors)

Urban expressions satchel HERE (love the details of the braided handle and the rope type seams)

And one under $50:

faux leather grey tote HERE

How many of the staples do you already have?
How many are you dying to add to your closet?
What is your top priority for spending money on your fall closet?
