Hey ya’ll! Earlier this year when I finished my Kitchen Makeover I bought some bamboo shades from SelectBlinds per Layla (Lettered Cottage)’s recommendation and put them on my window above my sink.

They were actually very reasonably priced because they have deals running all the time for 35-40% and free shipping. I love them so much that I decided to partner with them for new blinds in my dining room and living room.

The ones in my kitchen and living room window are inside mount and the ones on my patio doors are outside mount. They were seriously the easiest things to install.

The shades I chose were the Shoreline Cordless Woven Wood Shades and the color name is Sterculia.

I entered the exact measurements of the window when ordering online and they sent me custom fit shades that were installed within 15 minutes. Seriously, all I did was drill the brackets into the top of the window opening (or the top of the door), then the blinds slide right onto the screw that’s on the bracket. It tightened with a wing nut and that was it!

I have to be honest, when I first put the outside-mount shades on these patio doors I thought they stuck out too much. They protrude about the length of your index finger from the door (4 inches approx). But after taking pictures, asking friends, and living with them for a week, I got used them and now the protrusion doesn’t bother me at all or get in the way of anything.

The absolute best part about the shades is the fact that SelectBlinds has made a recent change so ALL of their blinds and shades are CORDLESS. I love this movement and I hope other window covering companies follow suit.  Read about their decision HERE.  This is a huge safety feature for anyone with small children (like me). Our previous blinds always had a long string that we had to be careful of and wind around these little plastic hooks on the door. Once these arrived, I removed the hooks, filled the holes and repainted. It looks so much cleaner and seamless without an annoying string.

The only problem I had was one of the door shades stopped going all the way up about 2 weeks after I had them. I sent a short video of how it was malfunctioning (the spring loaded wind up system was tangled) and SelectBlinds had their customer service team on it right away. I was hoping to find a way to fix it myself, but they sent out a replacement within a few days.

Because I was intrigued at first by cordless blinds/shades, I thought I’d make a quick little video showing you how easy it is to lift the bottom rail to open the shades. They simply stop when you stop lifting! How cool, right?

These shades are definitely great for preventing too much sun/heat from entering our home but they are not full privacy (although they do offer full privacy blinds and shades).

I think the contrast and texture they add to the room is so inviting and beautiful, don’t you?

I’m probably going to be trading out these curtains for some white ones… but these aren’t bad in the mean-time.

If you notice, I moved my furniture around again… I wanted to see how this layout would work now that we have changed a few things and added some additional sofa tables, and so far I like how cozy it feels.

We’ll see if this layout lasts more than a couple months. Before I got frustrated with how the kid would jump over that couch facing the TV, but this time I’m preventing that by the position of the white sofa table.
